FMS Update 5.26.24
Week of May 26, 2024
From the Desk of Our Proud Principal
Good evening, Trojan Families!
This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.
Memorial Day Holiday
There will be no school for students this Monday, May 27th in honor of the Memorial Day holiday. We will see students back at school Tuesday, May 28th.
End Of Grade Testing
We have exactly four instructional days before students take their end-of-grade assessments.
Our end-of-grade Tests, a culmination of our students' hard work throughout the year, are scheduled for Monday, June 3, Tuesday, June 4, and Wednesday, June 5. We anticipate seeing positive growth and academic excellence from our students. Please ensure students are punctual on these test days.
8th Grade Dance and Promotion Ceremony
Attention 8th grade families, the 8th Grade Dance, a memorable event, will be held May 31 from 6pm - 8pm in the Ferndale Cafeteria. Tickets are on sale for $10.
Our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Thursday, June 6. Your students have received information and will continue to receive reminders regarding the requirements and dress for the ceremony.
FMS Student Expectations
As the weather continues to warm and we move towards the end of the year, it's important to remind our students of our dress code and behavioral expectations for all students. We understand that students are eager for summer and vacation, but we still need them to adhere to the code of conduct and expectations. Your support in reinforcing these expectations at home will help us maintain a positive learning environment for all our students.
PBIS and Class Craft Update - Mr. Russell
PBIS (ClassCraft)🏆
Throughout the school year teachers have been awarding students ClassCraft points for meeting classroom and schoolwide expectations by showing a Positive Attitude, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Excellence (PRIDE). PRIDE is our school wide acronym for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).
Thanks to all of you for encouraging your scholars to meet these school wide expectations daily. With your help FMS has been able to decrease the amount of Lost Instructional Days due to out of school and in school suspensions. As we bring the school year to a close please continue to talk with your student about the importance of finishing the school year strong. This includes showing pride by showing up on time prepared with a positive attitude.
Thanks again!
Attendance Matters
Spring in Perfect Attendance
Be sure to make sure your student is Present on Purpose each day! We are getting closer to the end of the school year. With 9 days left of school and 4 days before EOG state testing it's important that your student does not miss any days as this is our final push for review before testing. We need your student present every day.

Message from Our ELA Multi-Classroom Leader - Ms. Mcleod
Stamina
As we inch closer and closer to our End of Grade ELA testing, there is one thing that will help every student be more successful. Stamina. Our students need additional practice building their sustained reading practice. By having your child read a grade level text for fifteen minutes without interruption- every day until testing- you will have enhanced his or hers ability in various areas. These include them having the ability to complete their assessment on time, not become easily fatigued while reading, increase vocabulary and overall comprehension. You can start small with just five minutes and increase it incrementally. This skill- stamina building- is an academic and life skill that all students need to have. Help us, help them build the stamina we all know is required to run this academic race with endurance and success!
