THMS Student Update
February 2025
Dear Badger Community,
Welcome to February, the shortest month of our school year. We have already reached the Mid-Term of our Third Quarter and progres grades will be issued this Friday, February 7, 2025. We encourage all students and parents to review their grades and their attendance. It is not too late to improve grades and the best way to do so is to attend class on time every day and complete all assignments.
Parents should have received an email from Survey Monkey with the title: TUSD Parent School Quality Survey 2025 - we want your feedback! Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. We use the surveys to determine goals for the following year and we greatly appreciate your input. Students had the opportunity to complete their surveys on Friday during Badger Power Hour. If any student missed this, we ask them to submit their survey so their opinions can be included.
Seniors and Parents of the Class of 2025 - I have a special newsletter that I will be sending out to you separately. It includes all the important dates and events leading to Graduation. If any Juniors are planning to graduate early, please send me an email and I will forward the newsletter to you as well. In the Senior newsletter I include the link to order Caps and Gowns for Graduation. If you order soon, your order will be delivered the last week in March.
I hope you all enjoy a fabulous February!

Interim Principal,

Hello Badger Families!
I would like to provide you updates from each of the areas under the office of Curriculum and Instruction. For any of the announcements below, please don't hesitate to reach out to me by email.
Counseling:
We are happy to announce that we have onboarded our newest counselor and have updated our Counseling Directory for students and families. Please see attached.
Next week, students who did not participate in Course Selection will receive a pass from the counseling office to come down and cast their selections for next year's courses.
For College and Career opportunities, please see our updated newsletter with a list of upcoming events and informational opportunities!
Attendance:
Hello Parents /Guardians!
It's that time of year to get your registration completed for your student’s next school year! Just a friendly reminder that every student per TUSD policy needs to have an updated proof of address every school year. You can upload your document in ParentVUE at the end of the registration before you submit the registration. You can also e-mail your child's Attendance Technician along with your student's name and date of birth. If your address has changed and is no longer in Tucson High School boundaries, no worries, your student placement at Tucson High still stays!
Seniors 25/26 - Email Irma Gonzalez
Juniors 26/27 - Email Jessica Villescaz
Sophomores 27/28 - Email Alejandra Saenz
Freshmen 28/29 - Email Alva Valenzuela
Some benefits for enrolling early are:
- You will be done before the Transportation Deadline
- Student schedules for next school year can start being developed
- You will stop getting repeated emails about registration

Navy Week at THMS!
February 18th - 19th, 2025
Each year the US Navy picks several landlocked cities across the United States to sponsor Navy Week activities. This year, the Navy selected Tucson for their celebration and they will be on campus at Tucson High on February 18th and 19th. They will also visit several locations throughout Tucson and participate in the Tucson Rodeo Parade.
The Navy will set up static displays in the Mall area in front of our Vocational Building. We will have sailors who serve on the USS Tucson and the USS Gabrielle Giffords visiting our campus. Sailors will speak to several classes about Naval History and Heritage, Meteorology and Oceanography, Operations, and eSports!
Tucson High has several special connections to the US Navy:
*The artist who designed the art on the front of the USS Tucson is Lisa Larrabee, a 1997 Graduate of Tucson High!
*The artist who designed the seal on the badges of the USS Tucson crew members is Susana Arias, also a graduate of Tucson High!
*James Van Horn was a sophomore at THS when he was recruited by Admiral Kidd from the US Navy. James was only 17 when he quit school and had his mom sign papers so he could join the Navy. He later died on the USS Arizona with Admiral Kidd on Dec. 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day.
We are excited to welcome representatives from the United States Navy to Tucson High Magnet School!
