Cardinal Recognitions
Thank You To:
- Sam Hanley and Stacey Matlock for all of the time, energy and effort in organizing the pep session and student tailgate on Friday.
- Holly Bohannon, Lauren Davis, and Kelly Dudley for their work on reaching out to our "no show" students and their families. They have called each family at least once and their work has gotten the list down to 42 students.
- Cory Sandvold, Emily Chambers and Millie Delgado for receiving a positive IHSAA report from an official regarding all of the coaches and their positive behavior.
- The Freshman Success team for their work in tracking academic and behavioral data of the freshman cohort.
- Carl Basey, Tyler Hostetler, Trey Jackson and Bobbie Royalty for their work in setting clear academic expectations in both of our study hall rooms. If you have a minute, stop into 267 OR 117 to see the great work they are doing!
- Our treasurers, Rosie Duselis and Leah Everett for helping cover in the main office when we were short staffed.
- Alicia Tasker for getting the Panorama site linked on the SHS website under "staff resources".

Alumni Association - Brent Bockelman
The Alumni Association is heavily involved in the community and Southport High School. We are lucky to have such a strong partnership with our alumni. We have numerous staff members who are active in the association and are lucky to have Mr. Brent Bockelman serving as the Alumni Association President. If you're curious about the work of the association, feel free to check out their most recent newsletter.

Ethan Coffman - 9th Grade iPass Tour
Mr. Coffman took his iPass grou of freshman on a tour of the offices. He dicussed the resources and supports available to all of our students so that our 9th graders are aware early. A push of the 9th grade iPass curriculum and cohorts is education on how school functions, how to get connected/be involved, and teaching students how to advocate for themselves.
Pep Session
Thank you so Stacey Matlock, Sam Hanley and the Booster Club members for arranging a successful fall pep session on Friday. With over 900 students approved to attend, the lower bowl of the Fieldhouse was full and fired up to celebrate all the sports and activities taking place at SHS this fall. The band played the school song, the senior fall athletes were recognized, the Cheerleaders performed and the classes competed in various games (hula hop line, toilet paper mummy wrap, moving a ball in the air with only your feet, and a partner potato sack race).
SHS Marching Band - Jeff Maupin
The SHS Marching Cardinals under the direction of Jeff Maupin played the National Anthem and performed during halftime of the football game on Friday. It was the first public appearance of the band's production which starts with "ballet Suit No. 4" by Dimitri Shostakovich. I'm excited to see the continued growth throughout the season as the band add more to their performances!
Fall Sports: Football & Coach Bettag
This past Friday was our first football game and the return of Friday Night Lights. The Cardinals under the leadership of Coach Alex Bettag battled hard, but were not able to walk away with the W. The Cardinals are back in action this Friday at PMHS in the district's Battle of the Birds. This is where the district teachers of the year will be recognized so please come out to support the students and teachers around the district. Other staff members coaching this season are Micah Brown (offensive coordinator), Scott Evans (defensive coordinator), Isaiah Cousins (assistant coach), Reid Fawcett (assistant coach), Trey Jackson (assistant coach), Phil Norswether (assistant coach), Lucas Quinlin (assistant coach), and Antonio Fisher (9th grade coach).
Fall Sports: Girls Volleyball & Coach Hoffman
The girls volleyball team had a busy first week of the season with 10 games in 8 days. The Varsity Cardinals have a lot of talent and energy with 7 seniors leading the way for Coach Chelsea Hoffman's team. The girls are 7-3 and look to take on Franklin Central on the road on Tuesday. The Cardinals will be at home on Thursday for their first conference matchup. Other staff members coaching this season are Emily Gearhart (JV head coach) and Ethan Coffman (JV assistant coach).
