March is National Theatre in Education Month
The Riverside Repertory Theatre celebrates March as National Theatre in Education Month! Theatre education teaches vital 21st-century skills critical to success on and off the stage! Join us and thousands of students and theatre educators to raise awareness of the benefits of theatre education.
Facts about Theatre Education:
Audience-based participation in the arts and personal participation in creating art are both linked to higher levels of civic engagement and social tolerance.
Arts education helps to increase students’ ability to manage behavior, make decisions, and cultivate a positive concept of the self.
“Only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge. The other 85% comes from well-developed soft-skills, things like the ability to listen, artistic sense, nonverbal communication, enthusiasm, and storytelling. Isn’t this the focus of our work in theatre?” Patricia Raun, 2017 EdTA Conference
UNITED WE HEAL PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
West Linn-Wilsonville School District Partners with United We Heal to Launch a Cutting-Edge Behavioral Health Pre-apprenticeship Program
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is excited to announce a partnership with United We Heal. Students at all three high schools now have an opportunity to apply to the United We Heal Behavioral Health Pre-apprenticeship program. This innovative program is the first of its kind in Oregon, and our district makes up three of the ten schools currently participating. Students are eligible to apply to the United We Heal program their Sophomore or Junior year. If accepted, students receive 36 hours of Career Training and earn 7 free college credits- PSY101 (Human Relations) and PSY125 (Introduction to Development)- while still in high school.
Upon graduation, students receive an industry-recognized certificate, providing a competitive advantage when applying to behavioral health jobs and when applying to the United We Heal Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) Apprenticeship programs. This “earn while you learn” model offers a no cost alternative pathway for students to pursue a career in behavioral health. After earning QMHA or CADC credentials, apprentices can continue to progress through United We Heal’s Applied Bachelor program, and if desired work toward their Master’s degree to become a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), with costs covered by United We Heal. They then can work toward licensure to be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Even if a student does not want to continue with United We Heal after high school graduation, earning college credits in high school saves time and money and looks impressive on scholarship and job applications. Several students have already applied to the pre-apprenticeship program with one stating they applied because "I think that this program will allow me to gain the skills needed if anyone around me ever needs help, and I think that is something valuable to have/know how to do. I am passionate about helping others and I truly enjoy psychology, and learning about ways to help in today's society. Behavioral health has always been something that interests me."
If interested in learning more please visit the United We Heal website or talk with your HS Counselor.

A Letter from the RHS Booster Club
Think for a moment, how has Riverside High had a positive impact on you?
We recognize how special our new school is and how each of us plays an important role in its growth. The dedicated staff and thriving students represent a great example of when we all come together to make something much more than ourselves. Our small size is one of our assets, but it also means raising funds can be more challenging for us.
The Riverside High School Booster Club is parent-driven and is focused on raising money for our school events, activities, academics, the arts, athletics, and clubs. It seeks to build community and make sure our students have the exceptional and well-rounded high school experience they deserve. We help organize, fund, and execute the ideas of our school community.
We need parents, guardians, grandparents, family members, friends, and neighbors to volunteer some time, give some money, ask friends and family in business for sponsorship, and be involved in our mission so that everyone benefits!
There are a variety of impactful ways you can give back to Riverside and make a difference:
Join us at Booster Club meetings – Today, we are a tiny band of rag-tag rebels that need you to join our ranks and help bring creative money-making ideas to fruition! Meetings last around two hours and are once a month at 630pm. Please check the Raptor Report calendar for dates. Participation is welcomed at any level that you like. We would love to hear your ideas, so come to a meeting and see how you can help out.
Corporate sponsorships – Are you or someone you know associated with a local business? Partnering with sponsors is an enormously valuable tool for us to reach our goals, while they also benefit from tax-deductible donations and a variety of marketing opportunities. Here is a link to our Corporate Sponsorship Form that you can use to get Corporate Sponsors. Completed forms can be submitted to the RHS main office or emailed to riversidehsboosters@gmail.com.
Volunteers are needed throughout the year to:
Sell snacks and drinks at our concession stand during our athletic or performing arts events
Decorate events on campus. Bring your talents to our next event and make it special!
Share your ideas and help make them come to life!
Drop off recyclable cans and bottles at our school, all proceeds go to the RHS Booster Club. Please bring these in a “Green Bag” if possible, otherwise any garbage bag will work. Bring them to the office attn: Carey Wilhelm.
Donate directly to RHS Booster Club - checks can be made out to RHS Booster Club and brought to the RHS office or you can reach out to riversidehsboosters@gmail.com for electronic payment donations.
We look forward to seeing you at our next Booster Club meeting on March 18th @ 630pm in the RHS Student Center.
If you have any questions email Carey Wilhelm: wilhelmc@wlwv.k12.or.us
