Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of May 19, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families and Staff,
As our school year draws to a close, our students' activities and accomplishments are at an all-time high.
Many of our classes are taking advantage of the beautiful weather to embark on field trips. Our Oceanography classes ventured to the West Atlantic City portion of EHT for some hands-on ocean science! Students collected amazing specimens like pufferfish, seahorses, and sea cucumbers, while observing countless other marine flora and fauna. They also explored local sediments, plankton, seawater chemistry, weather conditions, coastal features, and the maritime history of Lakes Bay. It was a fantastic adventure that brought learning to life in the field!
Our Honors and AP US History II students continued the yearly tradition of visiting Washington, D.C. Mr. Kristeller and Ms. Quinn led over 150 students on a tour of our nation’s capital, highlighting many monuments on the National Mall and exploring the Smithsonian Museum of American History. It was an educational and enjoyable trip for all involved.
AP Environmental Science students visited the Cape May Point Science Center as their final project for the Resilient Schools Consortium with neighboring schools. They engaged in various activities, including constructing sand dunes to protect homes from erosion, creating climate art, and collaborating with Wildwood High School students on coastline redesign. They also learned about horseshoe crabs and shared videos identifying local climate issues. Thank you to New Jersey Audubon for facilitating this trip.
Our students were fortunate to attend the 5 County Teen Summit at Stockton University this week. Their focus was on Resiliency and Emotional Intelligence. Our students truly enjoy interacting with other South Jersey students and discussing issues relevant to them.
Special congratulations to Easton Dilks, Farhan Labib, John Lazos, Demi Lu, and Jaimin Trivedi, who will be participating in the FAA's Monthly Aviation Mentor Program. These students will attend monthly meetings from September to February focused on aviation and future careers.
A big shout-out to our Key Club members who participated in the Relay for Life through the EHT PAL program. Many members dedicated over 10 hours to help set up and clean up. It was heartening to see them engaging with younger children, especially those affected by cancer. We are very proud of their efforts at this event.
Ms. Leo and her students shared their Words of Wisdom Day, where Philosophy students used the Socratic Method to engage in philosophical conversations with preschoolers, Miller students, and elderly residents from Somers Place. They concluded the day with a cleanup and lunch in Ocean City, making it a heartwarming and eye-opening experience for everyone involved.
Congratulations to Ms. Lambert and Ms. Townsel, who were celebrated as the Teacher and Educational Service Professional of the Year at the Atlantic County luncheon held at the Carriage House in Galloway.
Our Fine and Performing Arts department showcased their talent at the EHTHS Spring Choir Concert, “Melodic Melodies.” The incredible vocalists delivered an outstanding performance, thanks to the efforts of choral director Mr. Tinsley, co-director Ms. Bagliani, and collaborative pianist Mr. Milnes.
Our Unified team participated in a regional track meet on Wednesday, competing against athletes from various high schools. They did an amazing job. The heart and soul of our students is truly admirable. You can read more about the event by clicking the following link: Unified Track Meet Article. On Thursday, our Adaptive PE students participated in a competitive kickball game at the Field of Dreams in Absecon, with special thanks to Absecon PD for being the designated pitchers.
The girls' track and field team excelled at the CAL Championship. Amari Pinkett is the CAL Champion in the 400 meters and a Back-to-Back Champion in the 400 hurdles, achieving personal records in both events. Congratulations to all the athletes who placed and achieved personal records. The team now sets their sights on the NJSIAA Sectional Championship this weekend. Congratulations to golfer, Juliana Duggan, for earning the title of CAL Female Golf Champion for the second year in a row. Softball has also done it again as they blanked St. Joe in a 1-0 win to make it a 3-peat as CAL Champions!
Best of luck to the Crew team this weekend as they compete in Nationals in Camden at the Cooper River and to the Softball team as they take on Southern Regional at home on Friday at 2 p.m. for Round 2 of the NJSIAA playoffs. Next Wednesday, Baseball will play at Kingsway and Boys Volleyball will play at Southern Regional. Please head to a game to support our teams.
Today, we hosted our annual Mock Car Crash assembly for seniors, coordinated with AtlantiCare EMS, New Jersey State Police, Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, Egg Harbor Township Emergency Services, Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, and Atlantic County Medical Examiner's Office. The assembly serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving behaviors.
Next week is packed with activities. On Tuesday, seniors who signed up for Great Adventure will enjoy a thrilling day on the rides. On Wednesday, we will honor students who have maintained a 90 or above average with our Academic Achievement Breakfast. Thursday will follow an abbreviated day schedule for the prom. Prom attendees must be present for all classes on Thursday; early sign-outs and late arrivals are not permitted. Students who are not present for the full day will not be permitted to attend the prom. Our Red Carpet event will be held from 4 - 5 p.m. at the high school, with the prom starting at 6 p.m. at Harrah’s Conference Center in Atlantic City. Students must arrive by 7:00 p.m. or they will not be admitted.
Planning for next year is underway. Senior portraits will be taken at the high school by Lors Photography from July 15 - 18 and 22 - 25. More information will be provided soon, but please mark your calendars.
EHT Girls' Basketball Camp registration is open for girls entering grades 3-8. The camp will be held from July 15-18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the high school. Please click on the following link to register: Basketball Camp Registration.
Finally, the Egg Harbor Township School District will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 28. Please take this opportunity to reflect and express gratitude to those who have served our country. Let us honor the sacrifices of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Have a wonderful weekend!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Upstanders of the Week
Student Name: Isabella Per
Nominating Staff Member: Britne Field
Izzy regularly goes out of her way to help and compliment classmates and other students, brightening their day and mine too.
Student Name: Sebastian Castro
Nominating Staff Member: Brianne Shaner
Sebastian is always kind and thoughtful towards everyone in my class and outside of the classroom. Today we had a student upset about her markers and artwork and he saw that she was upset about those markers and decided to bring his personal markers over to her so she could use them. Immediately she was no longer upset and began using his markers. Sebastian is always making decisions to help others and brings brightness to everyone he interacts with.
Student Name: Colin Cohen
Nominating Staff Member: Mrs. VandenBerg/Mr. Ney
Colin helped others set up their essays and reviewed the directions with them. Thank you Colin!
Student Name: Aiden Fortenbacher
Nominating Staff Member: Lauren Nammour
I do not have Aiden in class, but we pass each other as I am leaving the classroom that he enters for Math class. Each day, Aiden greets me (and anyone else in the room) with a smile and a "hello." If Aiden sees me straightening up the room or organizing markers and calculators on my way out, he jumps right in to help without being asked. Aiden demonstrates an outstanding level of helpfulness and kindness in our school. For this reason, I think he should be recognized and considered for Upstander of the Week!

ALAB
On Monday our ALAB students went on their end of year “behind the scenes business trip” to AC. Many executives at the convention center were gracious enough to explain their role and responsibility to run so many amazing expos. We then went to Show Boat and had a tour of the water park and what it takes to run such a fun facility. And of course we found time to bond and have fun.
AP Gov
We’re kicking off a week full of field trips. First up: APGov enjoyed a visit to Independence Hall to see the room where it happened— where the declaration of independence, and constitution were signed, they also made a pitstop across the street to visit the Liberty Bell.
90's Day
Students in Ms. Worrall's and Mr. Cascio's CP US History 2 classes, and joined by Mr. Skipper's and Ms.Fenton's CP English 3 classes participated in the 2nd annual 90s day in the Library on 5/16. Students got to interact with videos, artifacts like VHS, CDs, and flip phones to get a feeling for what life was like during the 1990s and early 2000s. They got to enjoy snacks from the decade and get a sense for the pop culture of the 90s.
Oceanography
Last week, Oceanography classes ventured out to the West Atlantic City portion of EHT to do some hands-on ocean science! We collected amazing specimens like pufferfish, seahorses, and sea cucumbers, while observing countless other marine flora and fauna. Students were also able to explore local sediments, plankton, seawater chemistry, weather conditions, coastal features, and the maritime history of Lakes Bay. It was a great adventure and so much fun to bring our students out into the field!
AP Art History
Our AP Art History students celebrated the end of exam week with a fantastic trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art! They had the incredible opportunity to see firsthand the masterpieces they studied throughout the year. It's amazing to see their learning come to life
EHTHS Thespian Troupe
The EHTHS Thespian Troupe presented their end of the year showcase going down memory lane!
Our current students paid a wonderful and nostalgia tribute to past musicians and actors and performed highlights from EHTHS shows from 1993-to the present!
The audience enjoyed selections from Peter Pan into the Woods, grease Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, Shrek, Joseph and many more to the delight of the audience.
Thank you to our dedicated advisors, Mr. Kevin Mccafferty, and and Mrs. Margo Schoeffel for working with our students to make this season and this event so meaningful
EHT Vocal Ensemble
CONGRATULATIONS to the Egg Harbor Township Vocal Ensemble and their dedicated director Mr. Richard T. Tinsley II for their “Superior” performance at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) competition hosted by Rowan University! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing our #ehtpride for all to hear and see!
AP Environmental
The AP Environmental Science students visited Cape May Point Science Center as the final culminating project of their Resilient Schools Consortium with neighboring schools. Students first tried to construct a sand dune that would protect homes from erosion on the beach. They then participated in a climate art project making a banner showcasing what they think an ideal environment would look like. Their next station was working on a coastline redesign and the students were partnered with students from Wildwood high school who shared their experiences with beach erosion in North Wildwood. The final station was learning about horseshoe crabs and sharing videos that students had made that identified a local climate issue . Egg Harbor Township high school students had interviewed businesses in the community and asked questions related to storm management. It was a great end of the year trip for all . Thank you to New Jersey Audubon for facilitating the trip .

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/

🌟May 16th was Mental Health Action Day!🌟
While Mental Health Awareness is incredibly important; it is also important to put some steps into ACTION in terms of self-care for ourselves or the people we love. Although the day has passed, in honor of Mental Health Action Day, try to take a day this week to do something that is best for yourself, your loved ones or your community. Something as simple as repeating the above statement to yourself 3 times is a great start! Try it! And then try it once a day!🌟😊
🌟MAY is full of hope and possibilities in just the name alone!🌟
