KHS Update
06/13/2025

Principal's Message
As we close out the 24/25 School Year, I want to take the opportunity to say thank you to the students, the faculty and staff at KHS, the families, my colleagues in the rest of the district, and the RSU 21 community at large. This is an incredible school in an incredible community, and it takes a lot of hands working incredibly hard to put this thing together and keep it moving forward, and I am so honored to have been given the trust of this school to be the principal this year.
For evidence of our incredible team, you need only look to the fantastic Commencement ceremony, the wonderful Class Night, and the impactful Senior's Last Assembly for the class of 2025 this past weekend. Believe me when I tell you that there were many folks who invested a tremendous amount of time. The KHS Main Office staff, the School Counseling office, the facilities and maintenance crew, the KHS Assistant Principals, the class advisors and countless other people who worked tirelessly and together to create a worthy send off to our beloved class of 2025. If you have an opportunity to thank any one of those folks, give them a high five! They are stars!
We're looking forward to meeting our newest Kennebunk High School Rams (the class of 2029!) on Tuesday for step up day.
Several athletic teams are winding down their strong spring seasons, so be sure to get out there and support our athletes.
Next, I want to offer a HUGE congratulations to KHS Rising Senior Quinn Wherley, who has has been selected as Maine's only representative for the 2025 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference, a prestigious five-day program taking place June 22-27 in Washington, D.C.
Quinn is one of just 51 high school juniors selected nationwide for the program — one from each U.S. state and Washington, D.C. — which is hosted by Freedom Forum, a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to fostering First Amendment freedoms. Each scholar receives a $1,000 college scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to the nation's capital.
It is a TREMENDOUS honor and we simply could not be more proud and excited for her.
Thanks as always to the KHS Appreciation Committee for their support in providing snacks for finals. This group of people have done wonderful things for our staff and we could not be more thankful.
Finally, this will be the last KHS Update for the 24/25 School year, and I want to let you know that as we move through summer the KHS staff will be taking some time for some much needed time to rest and recharge and get ready for a fantastic 25/26 School year. Our response times will be slower, and you might find a day or two where the office is closed, but we will indeed be around to help when needed.
Thank you, have a safe and happy summer and take care.
Peace,
Scott Tombleson (He/Him/His - What is this?)
Principal - Kennebunk High School

Are you registered to take a UMaine(Orono or Machias) Early College class this fall? An Online Course Prep Session can help you prepare.
UMaine will be running online Course Prep Sessions in the three weeks leading up to each semester to help students prepare for their upcoming course(s). So, think things like:
- Activating and accessing UMaine accounts
- Navigating Brightspace
- Ordering course materials
And anything else students need help with in preparation for their classes.
These sessions are fully online, only 25-40 minutes long (depending on what students bring for questions), and they are offered at various days/times in the lead-up to the semester start date. Sign-ups to take the online course begin on August 4th. If you are registered for a course through UMaine or Machias you should receive an email with the Prep Course link just prior to August 4.
If you have any questions, see your school counselor before summer break.

Attention JUNIORS (SAT info)
If you'd like to retake the SAT, here's how you sign up. There are two test dates in the summer and several in the fall.
Something to keep in mind, if you are applying Early Action (EA) or Early Decision (Types of Admissions), you'll want to take the SAT well before your first application deadline with enough time to receive your scores (typically 4-6 weeks).

KHS Appreciation Committee Update
There’s a saying: many helping hands make light work, and that’s certainly been true with our initiatives! Whether we needed cookies, raffle items, or donations, every time we reached out to the community, support came pouring in.
The best way I can describe being part of this group is glimmer. Our acts of appreciation give me that spark -- I feel connected to an amazing group of parents and educators, and proud to be making a difference. Yes, it’s a little extra responsibility, but it lifts me up. We’d love to have more people experience that with us.
Looking ahead, we’ll be following a similar calendar of events next year. We’d love for more people to get involved! We meet the first Thursday of each month at 8:30am at the high school, and we also host several evening meetings at The Elective throughout the year. We’re hoping to find someone interested in helping as treasurer, and we will be meeting a couple of times this summer so please send me your email if you would like to get involved.
A Note About the Directory:
All of our initiatives this year went really well… except the Directory. We simply didn’t have enough participation to make printing worthwhile. If you submitted payment and would like a refund or have questions, please reach out directly — I’m happy to help. Sorry, and thank you for understanding!
One Last Request for This Year:
We’d like to provide snacks for students during finals. We’ll set up a table in the front lobby so they can grab what they need. If you’d like to help, please see the attached sign-up. Simply drop off your donation with the front office or meet one of us there at 7am to setup a table of snacks on the 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th of June.

And finally — we’ll be reaching out again in mid-August for help providing donuts and coffee for our teachers. Until then, thank you again for being such a supportive community!
Best,
Jill A
