Hillcrest Family Engagement
December 2024
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Dear Parents,
As we approach the holiday season, we want to take a moment to wish you and your family a joyful and restful time together. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to recharge and enjoy quality time with loved ones.
While the holiday break offers much-needed relaxation, we also encourage you to continue supporting your child’s learning in fun and engaging ways. Visiting your local library, exploring a museum, or taking part in other educational activities can offer enriching experiences and stimulate curiosity. These activities provide a great opportunity to explore new ideas, read interesting books, and experience culture in a hands-on way.
We hope you take time to enjoy these experiences together, and that your child returns after the break with renewed enthusiasm for learning.
Wishing you a safe, happy, and memorable holiday season!
Parents as Partners
Parental involvement in a child's education is essential for their academic success and overall development. When parents actively engage in their child's learning, it not only fosters a positive attitude toward school but also strengthens the bond between home and school. Research consistently shows that children with involved parents tend to perform better academically, have higher self-esteem, and develop stronger social skills. Parental involvement provides a sense of support and stability, ensuring that children have the encouragement and resources they need to thrive. Additionally, it allows parents to stay informed about their child's progress and work collaboratively with teachers to address any challenges. In short, when parents take an active role in their child's education, it creates a foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Hear from Ms. Rios, Hillcrest parent on how she takes an active role in her children's education.

Fun Activities To Do With Your Kids
Watch A Holiday Movie
Does your child have a favorite Holiday movie? If not, this might be the year to start a tradition of watching the same holiday movie every December. Be sure to add some extra fun to an at-home movie night by wearing Christmas-themed pajamas and prepping some of your favorite holiday treats to have on hand.
Kid Friendly Movie Suggestions:
- Frozen
- Elf
- Jingle All the Way
- I’ll Be Home for Christmas
- A Christmas Carol
- Home Alone
- Polar Express
- The Grinch
- The Santa Clause
- Arthur Christmas
Create A Reading Space
Transform a cozy corner of your home into a magical holiday reading space. Hang twinkly lights, add festive pillows and blankets, and stock a basket with holiday stories. Make it extra special by creating "reading tickets" that kids can exchange for story time with parents, complete with hot chocolate and cookies. This creates both a festive activity space and encourages family bonding through reading holiday classics.
Volunteer
As the old saying goes “it’s better to give than receive,” and the holidays are definitely a time for giving. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities to collect and deliver food to the needy or clean up the community you live in year-round.
Family Photo Shoot
Gather your whole crew, including those adorable furry pals, and get set for a festive photoshoot that screams holiday joy. There are oodles of ways to turn your merry snapshots into a memorable event, whether you're going for the traditional look or aiming for some playful fun. First things first, get your look together, and then scout out the ideal spot. Maybe you could venture to a nearby park for a dash of wintry excitement. Take turns taking photos and send your favorites to family and friends.
