MCAP Math, ELA, and Social Studies Testing
From: School Testing Coordinator
It's that time of year again, state testing time! Below are the dates for MCAP Math, ELA, and Social Studies Testing. Students must arrive ON TIME for test dates for their grade level. Testing will be conducted in the morning. Due to the tests being adaptive, students will automatically be assigned to make-up testing if they are tardy or absent on the first day of testing for each content (math and ELA). Students that miss testing may miss the upcoming Spring Festival sponsored by the PTO in order to complete their make-up testing. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Fagan (justine.fagan@pgcps.org). Please check your email for any updates or changes.
6th grade: April 9, 10, 11, and 24 (math and ELA)
7th grade: April 29 - May 2 (math and ELA)
8th grade: April 29 - May 2 (math and ELA) , May 6 and May 8 (social studies)

Character Trait of the Month: Trustworthy
This month, we’re focusing on the character trait of trustworthy. Being trustworthy means others can rely on you to be honest, responsible, and consistent. That also includes making good decisions, even when it’s tough or when no one is watching. Whether it's staying focused, doing your best, or choosing kindness—you show you're someone others can count on.
Who will be our Students of the Month for May?
Reminder: Uniform & Electronics Policy
We’ve noticed an increase in students bringing portable electronic devices, including cell phones, Bluetooth headphones, and smartwatches. As a reminder, all electronics must be placed in lockers upon morning arrival and remain there throughout the school day.
Additionally, students must be in the correct uniform daily. PE uniforms should only be worn on designated PE days.
Violations will be documented in our infraction tracker, and appropriate consequences will be assigned. Please ensure your scholar follows these expectations. Thank you for your support!
Attendance
All students are expected to attend school regularly in accordance with state laws and regulations. The schools, families, and communities must work together to foster exemplary attendance for all students. (Board Policy 5113)
Examples of Lawful Absences include: death in the immediate family, illness, suspension, observance of religious holidays, court summons, etc.
Please be sure to provide an Electronic note to the school when your child is absent. using this link https://shorturl.at/kmoL4 . This link is also located on our school website under CMIT Families tab/ Parents.
This form should be completed by parents when their child is arriving late/ early dismissal or absent from school. Students have 3 (THREE) school days once they return, to submit a note explaining their absence. (PLEASE NOTE: Family Trips/Vacations are NOT excused absences, you must submit a different form and get pre-approval from Principal Brauer) * Not all absence notes are excused. Families are encouraged to refer to Administrative Procedure 5113 for more information.
Please attach doctor's notes or any other supporting documentation that is related to the absence. Once an excused absence note is submitted , your child will be permitted to make up missing work. It would be helpful to have your child ask their teacher(s) and or email your child's teachers to see what missing work needs to be completed. For any questions or concerns, please contact the front office @ 301-350-6051.

MCAP Make-up Testing
The make-up window for MCAP testing is May 12 - May 23. However, make-ups can occur within the testing window which is April 7 - May 23. The make-up schedule will only be sent to families with students that need to complete make-up testing. Unfortunately due to limited space and test administrator availability, if your scholar is absent for their assigned make-up, their test will be voided. This means that they will not receive a score for their missed MCAP test. As a reminder, MCAP test scores are not included in the GPA calculation.

Youth Drug Prevention Program (Mr. Johnson, Counselor)
Hello Parent's/Guardians,
CMIT North Middle School has a great opportunity for students between the ages of 12-19. Students will have an opportunity to learn about drug prevention through The Virtual Youth Drug Prevention Program.
I want to emphasize the program is ready to begin enrolling students today. A few important points about this program:
The program supports youth ages 12-19 who live in Maryland and are enrolled in Medicaid.
It's a virtual initiative aimed at providing critical resources in the area of youth drug
prevention, vaping, and alcohol.
It's ongoing throughout the year (including summer) and there is no cap on the number of students who can be enrolled.
Students will meet on a weekly zoom call for 1-hour on Monday and 1-hour on Thursday at 5pm.
The program has a financial literacy component where students will receive a $25.00 weekly stipend for attending the 2 weekly (Monday & Thursday - 5 pm to 6 pm) 1-hour zoom calls.
The program helps students set up a bank account in order for them to receive their money.
During the sessions, students are equipped with tools, education, and resources addressing real life challenges such as peer pressure, trauma, and social stress.
If you have any questions and would like for your scholar to participate, please reach out to Mr. Johnson, Guidance Counselor at yurhance.johnson@pgcps.org. Also, you can reach out to Sonia Chase at soniachase@cydacademy.org or (410) 812-7670.
📢 CMIT Math 8 Parent Partnership Log – Get Involved & Support Your Scholar!
📢 CMIT Math 8 Parent Partnership Log – Get Involved & Support Your Scholar!
Parents and guardians of Math 8 Sections 83, 84, 86, and 87, your involvement is one of the biggest factors in student success! To help keep scholars on track and ensure they have the support they need, we’ve launched the CMIT Math 8 Parent Partnership Log.
This quick, 5-minute daily check-in allows parents to monitor their scholar’s progress, verify their understanding, and even help them earn extra credit on independent assignments!
How It Works:
Each night, parents complete the log to confirm their scholar’s progress:
✔️ Monday: Scholar has completed all Khan Academy assignments.
✔️ Tuesday: Scholar has taken notes on the instructional video.
✔️ Wednesday: Scholar has shared a Traffic Light Reflection.
✔️ Thursday: Scholar has achieved 100% mastery on Khan Academy (verified by solving a problem).
✔️ Friday: Scholar has started next week’s assignments.

Why This Matters:
Parental involvement has been shown to improve student attendance, behavior, and academic performance. Students in Sections 83, 84, 86, and 87 whose families complete this log at least 3 times per week will earn extra credit on their independent assignments!
Let’s work together to support our scholars and build strong study habits—we appreciate your partnership!
