Husky Happenings
October 2024
A Message from the NHS PTSA Executive Board
What a great start to the year this has been for our Huskies! It was great to see so many at
Husky Nation Night! Can you believe we are already 1⁄4 of the way through the school year?
There is still much work to do and your Husky PTSA is always seeking supporters who enjoy
volunteering their time and/or donating items to supplement our activities. We have many roles
opening at the end of this school year for those who want to learn alongside someone before
they leave. Thank you to those that have already stepped up! School involvement is the
greatest indicator of a successful school experience. Academic success will look different for
every student, but a primary role of PTSA is to support the school by providing FUN activities to
break up the rigor of their day. Students who can attend a school where they feel safe, where
staff is invested in them, and where they have some fun, will undoubtedly learn and mature.
This is our goal and what we need help with —supporting our students and staff to make North
an enjoyable place to go each day–Please reach out to any of the officers listed below if you
would like to be more involved with Husky PTSA!
President: Jennifer Sisson (jsisson503@att.net)
Vice President: Mandy Nash (ajmbnash@gmail.com)
Treasurer: Jenifer Sorrel (j.sorrell@twc.com)
Secretary: Mandi Sartore (mandi.sartore@yahoo.com)
SPIRIT WEAR
Husky PTSA plans to sell numerous spirit wear options opening in late October. This sale will
have multiple designs and garment options and will be ready before Christmas. There will be
many fabulous options for gift giving. Orders will be delivered to the school to be sent home
with students or can be picked up at Imagination Ts on Franklin Street if you want the order to
be a surprise. The link to this order will be shared via schoolmessenger and social media or
can be located on the Imagination Ts website (www.imaginationts.com) under the second tab
labeled “STORE”.
Other spirit items that will be available include Husky Christmas Ornaments, Decals, and a
super soft Husky blanket. Each of these items will be sold at home athletic events in November
& December—Just look for the PTSA table in the commons or near the gym entrance! Online
orders will also be available using the link sent via schoolmessenger and/or posted to social
media.
PLAIN VANILLA FUNDRAISER
Plain Vanilla Fundraiser(PVF) has reached $1359. This is the primary fundraising entity for
NHS PTSA second to the Mum Sale. Our goal for income from the PVF for this school year is
$3,765. So far, PTSA has received contributions from 29 families. That means a very small
percentage of our student population has participated in supporting our PTSA in the easiest
fundraiser of all time--no products to sell or deliver, no money to collect from your coworkers and
family, no frustrating timelines--just a small amount of financial support from even 50% of our
Husky Family would mean that we can continue to provide all the special activities for our
students and staff that give them pride in their school community. This is even more important
this year since the school is no longer allowed to charge supply fees. Many classrooms relied
upon those fees to cover the expense of special activities within their classroom. PTSA will help
bridge the gap for missing funding in the classroom with our teacher grant program that kicks off
in November.
Please consider donating to the North High School PTSA Plain Vanilla Fundraiser. You may use
the QR code below to go directly to the PTSA Paypal page that is dedicated to donations for the
Plain Vanilla Fundraiser OR you can send a check to the front office payable to North PTSA
with Plain Vanilla in the memo line.
In August and September of each year, we have an incentive prize for donors who send a
donation of $50 or more before September 30. One lucky person is drawn to win a $25 gift
card. The 2024 winner of the Plain Vanilla Fundraiser Incentive Prize is Rimpa Patel.
Congratulations, and Thank you for your support!
If you are one of the ones who already donated, YOU ARE APPRECIATED! Your support has
allowed us to continue to function as normal this year. Decide now that you will help: $5, $15,
$25, $100....Your generosity is beneficial to all Huskies AND 100% tax deductible! (North
PTSA is a 501C3 Non-Profit Organization)
MUM SALE
The first month of school is always very busy, but even more so for PTSA since our mum sale
must circulate and close within the first two weeks. We sold just over 400 mums this year. Our
mums came from Rexing’s Blumenhaus and were gorgeous as always. THANK YOU to all who
purchased mums and to everyone who assisted with delivery day! We couldn’t have done it
without you! We recognize that there are numerous vendors and organizations in our area
seeking orders for fall mums each year–Your support of our sale is invaluable!
Keep this on your radar next August to remember to order your mums from North PTSA and if
you want a way to ensure you get your steps in, volunteer to help on delivery day!
APPLE DAY
Apple Day is a long standing PTSA tradition that we transitioned to a 1 day event a couple years
ago after having to cancel it due to Covid. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, PTSA volunteers came to classrooms during 1st Period through Homeroom to sell apples for 50 cents each.
MEMBERSHIP
North High School PTSA Membership is currently at 171 members thus far. It’s not too late to
join! At the end of November, we will begin an online membership recruitment event.
Membership to North High School PTSA costs only $10. Students, Parents, Guardians,
Grandparents, any person invested in the quality of the educational environment at North is
encouraged to join. There are no requirements to attend meetings or participate in events,
although that is welcomed! Support of our PTSA helps us continue to serve ALL Husky
students through events such as PAYDAY, APPLE DAYS, Student of the month, etc. Please
scan the QR code below or watch your emails for the opportunity to join our PTSA!
PAYDAY
Coming April 25, 2025... PARENTS APPRECIATE YOU DAY! This is a super fun day for every
Husky student that has been held by the PTSA for students for more than 30 years! This event
is the primary opportunity that PTSA has to celebrate each student for being part of the Husky
Family. Initial planning is underway, and event specifics are being discussed, but we need
prizes and people to visit restaurants, etc seeking donations. If you have access to a product
that you would like to donate, or are interested in helping gather prizes, please contact Carla
Jackson at NHSPayday@gmail.com.
NORTH PTSA MEETINGS
North PTSA meetings are held in the media center at school! When you enter the main doors
by the school office, just walk straight back until you dead end at the glass entrance of the
media center. Meetings start at 6:30 PM and generally last about 45 minutes. Meeting dates for
the remainder of the school year are:
November 6, 2024
January 15, 2025
April 2, 2025
April 30, 2025
Yes, we have 2 in April, but due to schedule conflicts, the beginning of May didn’t work. You do
NOT need to be a PTSA member to attend. All Husky families are welcome! Our meetings are
a great way to find out what’s happening in our school and share your thoughts.

The North Huskettes Dance Team has many exciting things coming up. The Huskettes will be featured in the Evansville Living Magazine for November/ December. We sign up for Nationals in Disney World/ The ESPN Center. We will be performing Hip Hop, Jazz, and Game Day in February. We have learned our dancers and are working hard to be ready to go.
Unified Sports Update
The NHS unified team tried a new sport this year... Bocce! We loved learning how to play and improved with each practice. We were looking forward to playing in Carmel at the Unified Bocce tournament, but the rain had other plans for us.
Our unified teams are gearing up to start basketball practices soon! Be on the lookout for our unified basketball team hitting a court near you.
Looking ahead to the holidays, our annual ham fundraiser will be happening again this year. Please keep us in mind if you need a ham for your Thanksgiving feast.
North Key Club Prepares a "Meal of Love"
Recently, the North Key Club visited the Ronald McDonald House on Washington Avenue. While at RMH, fourteen club members worked together to make dinner for families utilizing the property. Dinner for the families consisted of spaghetti with meat sauce, penne alfredo, garlic bread, salad, and cookies. Additionally, members took to cleaning the common living and dinning area and kitchens once dinner was ready to serve. The Key Club is looking forward to bringing more joy and kindness to others and helping kids in the community this year!
Evansville American Red Cross New Stuffed Animal Drive and Fundraiser
North Key Club and Student Council are working together to raise funds to purchase new stuffed animals for the Evansville Red Cross. These stuffed animals are distributed by the Red Cross in the event of natural disaster or house fire as a means of comfort for children affected by the event. In an effort to generate funds for this project, the groups are sponsoring a Pie in the Face contest during lunches Friday, October 25 through Thursday, October 31, 2024. If you would like to donate new small stuffed animals or money directly to the drive, please contact Ms. Misty Lawson, misty.lawson@evsck12.com, Key Club Sponsor or Mrs. Madison Jones, madison1.jones@evsck12.com, Student Council Sponsor.
Cake Kits
The Principles of Human Services classes put together 50 birthday cake kits for charities. Each kit contains a cake mix, frosting, Sprite (replaces the oil, water & egg), birthday card and candles inside of a 9x13 aluminum baking pan. The kits are going to Greater Evansville Youth and Ozanam Family Shelter to help those in need celebrate their birthdays.
Diversity Class
The Understanding Diversity classes created ornaments based on a country's culture. We have a Marshall Islands boat, Guatemalan Dancer's Dress, German pretzel and England's Big Ben
Immunization Information For Senior Parents
Parents of Seniors,
You received a phone call/email/text on 9/4 and 10/6 and an email on 9/16 because North High School does not have the necessary documentation needed for your senior students’ required immunizations for the 2024-25 school year. Please send in documentation that the 2nd meningitis vaccine (MCV4/Menveo) has been given or call the nurse at 812-435-8345 or email her at michelle.donovan@evsck12.com with an appointment date and time to have the vaccine completed by your provider.
**Check with your provider to see if the vaccine has been given, there have been quite a few students that have had the vaccine, but it is not documented on the state database by the doctor’s office.
This needs to be completed by 10/25/24. All days beginning Monday, October 28th will be counted as unexcused until an appointment date is scheduled and reported to the nurse or that the vaccine has been given.

What is the ACT/SAT?
· The ACT and SAT are college admissions tests. Colleges typically use the score earned on the ACT and/or SAT as part of their admission process. You can Google colleges to look for the average ACT and SAT test score needed for admission.
What is the difference between ACT and SAT?
College Admissions and ACT/SAT
· Some colleges and universities are choosing a “test optional” admissions policy. Students will need to check with the schools they plan to apply for in the fall to determine if the ACT or SAT are needed for admission. Colleges that utilize “test optional” sometimes require a more involved essay in the admission requirements.
· Having a good ACT or SAT score may help with scholarship selection even if colleges don’t require a test for admission. Test optional does not mean students should not test.
Should I send my test scores?
· When registering, you should select colleges that you think you would like to attend and send your test scores. Many schools will require test scores directly from the testing agency. If you have to send scores after the test there will be a fee assessed.
· College bound athletes must send their scores to the NCAA eligibility center and/or the NAIA center. NCAA code 9999 NAIA code is 9876
How do I register for the ACT or SAT?
· Students must register online at the following websites:
· ACT: www.actstudent.org
· SAT: www.collegeboard.org
· Students will need their High School Code. North High School 150977
· Register by the deadline.
· You will have to upload a photo--see websites for guidelines.
