Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students
ANNOUNCING FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS AT Sunrise Elementary: COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION (CEP) PROGRAM
We are pleased to announce that through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program, Sunrise Elementary will be providing breakfast and lunch to all students at no charge.
This is effective March 1, 2024, and will remain in effect at least throughout the 2024-25 school year. CEP will provide students at Sunrise Elementary with nutritious and flavorful meals, while eliminating the need for a Free and Reduced Meal application. At CEP schools, every student will be eligible to receive one free breakfast and lunch meal. Additional meals and a la carte items will continue to be available at regular pricing.
We look forward to serving your students nutritious meals at school!
For any questions, please contact DVUSD Food & Nutrition Department at Nutrition@dvusd.org or call 602-445-5166.
Get Ready for Testing!
How Can I Help?
It is that time of year again that we are preparing students for State Testing. Families play a big part in testing success, here is how you can help your student at home to get ready and feel successful.
Make sure your student is getting a full night’s rest, kids in grades 3-6 need an average of 9-12 hours of sleep per night. Going to bed early can help them function better in the morning
Eat a good breakfast on testing day OR arrive at school by 8:00am to enjoy breakfast in the classroom for free.
Be sure to review the “Rock the Test” paper that comes home the night before a testing unit, this will get you and your student on the same page and in the right frame of mind before testing.
Give you student lots of positive encouragement and pump them up to do their best!
Eclipse
There will be a partial solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. The eclipse will last from 10:08 until 12:35. As a safety precaution, Sunrise will be on a rainy day schedule during this time. This means that students will have recess in the classroom rather than on the playground.
Lost and Found will be donated on April 2
***All items will be donated on April 2***
Is your child missing a hoodie or a jacket? Please ask them to check Lost and Found outside the cafeteria. We have lots of jackets and hoodies that don't have owners. Thanks!
Bruster's Night
PTO is sponsoring a fundraiser at Bruster's on 4/10/24 from 4-7 pm. Come by and get some ice cream from a secret Celebrity Scooper. Which staff members do you think it will be?
New Classroom Furniture
Next year, students will enjoy new classroom furniture! The new desks are designed to allow students to work separately or in different group sizes. We're excited by this change; it's been a while since we have received new desks.
Food Pantry
Could you use a little extra support? Sunrise currently has food pantry items available to all families. Just drop by the front office if you would like to pick up these items.
