Quick Updates
Dear Kirk Community,
We all hope you have a great summer! This newsletter will highlight many of the amazing things our students did during ESY, all thanks to our amazing team of educators. I know many will be on the look out for teacher assignment letters. We will be sending those letters to families at the beginning of August.
We have a new Assistant Principal, Christina Spizzirri joining our administrative team. Christina has been working as a teacher here at Kirk and we look forward to having her support across the program. Maggie Cerniglia is continuing her role as the other AP.
During the month of July the office at Kirk will not be open daily. If you need anything please know that when you call and leave a voicemail or send emails there might be a delay in the response.
Sincerely,
Brian Weems
Principal

APE - Coach Matt, Coach Nick, Coach Joe, and Coach Kasey
Kirk School celebrated the Summer Olympics during ESY. Each classroom got the choice to select a country to represent. Classrooms decorated their rooms, doors, and carts to show their country’s pride! Some of the PE competitions that students participated in were synchronized swimming, cycling, and gymnastics. All of the participants did an amazing job! ESY 2024 was a huge success. Thank you to all students and staff for their gold medal performances!

S'more Tasting
The class went to SLOEC during the first week of summer school. Before our trip, we went to Jewel and bought s’more supplies. On the day of our SLOEC trip, the class made s’mores on the campfire. The following day, the class made s’mores in the microwave. We then had the class compare and contrast the differences between the two types of s’mores. We also voted on if we liked the campfire s’more or the microwave s’more the best. John, Ashley, and Diana liked the campfire s’more the best, while Joseph and Anthony liked the microwave s’more the best. A delicious time was had by all!
Room 107 - Joan Obial
The summer school was great!
Our class enjoyed our literacy unit theme, The Olympics. We created our own version of the Summer Olympics by competing with other classrooms in a race to the finish line! Using a classroom spinner and a switch, we counted squares on the floor and moved accordingly with our wheelchairs. We also took part in various in-school events such as JG’s Reptile Show, Petting Zoo, and Mane in Heaven. We also went to Sunrise Lake Outdoor Education Center, Twin Lakes, and a Bowling Alley. On our last day of school, we enjoyed a parade with the Police Department.

What happened to Summer School?! We were so busy that we barely noticed the days went by. We loved meeting the animals and observing the ducks follow the tortoise. We followed directions and were cautious in our handling of the reptiles. At the bowling alley, we stayed behind the line and rolled for turkeys. We beat the heat and stayed indoors, completing crafts at Sunrise and enjoying swimming at Pioneer Park. On our final day, we celebrated Ms. Donna on her retirement from NSSEO. While our time at summer school was brief, we were active and safe and had a blast.
