BAKING WITH SAMANTHA ROMANOWSKI
BAKING SOURDOUGH AT HOME
Learn the basics of sourdough baking. This class will guide you through a no-knead method of baking. Participants will learn how to shape, fold and score a loaf, how to take care of your starter and what to do with leftover starter. You’ll take home a strong sourdough starter, a loaf to bake at home, a packet of recipes and a proving basket! You will also leave with the knowledge and confidence you need to start making sourdough at home regularly!
Please bring a 16oz jar or container to take your starter home, as well as a large bowl for your dough.

PERFECT SCONES
Scones can be sweet or savory, perfect with coffee and tea, as a snack or really, anytime of the day! Working with butter and flour doesn't have to be tricky though. In this class learn tips and tricks to master uniquely crisp and buttery scones with crumbly corners and a soft, flaky interior. Create your own flavored scones, and learn how to use your freezer to your advantage (Mother's Day is around the corner!) Participants will leave with scones to bake the following day, plus a packet of recipes and info.
Please bring a baking dish to take your scones home in.

BUILD A HYPERTUFA WITH NAN HAGE
Hypertufa is a lightweight mix of cement, peat moss, and vermiculite. Learn how to make this mixture and create garden planters or other projects for indoor or outdoor décor!
The ingredients provided will make a 6" inch to 8" wide container with walls about an inch thick. Bring a basket or a pot for a mold, nothing nice as it may have to be cut, plastic gloves and a box or tub to carry your creation home in!

STAINED GLASS FOR BEGINNERS
Join us for an opportunity to create your very own stained glass Suncatcher! In this 3 week workshop, you will learn the copper foil method of stained glass as you cut, grind, foil and solder your creation. There will be a variety of beginner friendly patterns for you to choose from.
No experience is required, however a certain amount of hand strength is required to cut glass. (If you have any concerns, please contact us) Booklet summarizing what you learned, and how to take care of your Suncatcher is provided.

Offered 1 Thursday or Friday per month, Judy Stubb, certified Bob Ross Instructor will start you with a blank canvas and help you leave with a completed masterpiece in just 3 to 4 hours! This “Wet-on-Wet” technique is a very simple, easy to follow method anyone from beginners to seasoned painters can master.

Learn about our different weather patterns in 4 separate classes. Each class is focused on a specific weather pattern. Class is instructed by Portland Meteorologist and CCC Faculty member in the Fire Science Dept, John Saltenberger.

MOUNTAIN WAVES AND DOWNSLOPE WIND STORMS
Large scale wind crossing mountain ranges or isolated peaks can result in disturbed, wavy air flow patterns near and downstream of the obstruction. The disturbed air pattern can result in damaging wind events called "downslope wind storms" on the lee side of mountain ranges. The disturbed air pattern can also create dangerous extreme turbulence for aircraft passing overhead. This unit will describe the formation and mechanics of Mountain Waves and downslope wind storms.

FRONTAL SYSTEMS
Weather fronts are boundaries between large scale air masses of contrasting temperature and moisture characteristics. Fronts are known for being areas of active weather because boundaries between contrasting air masses are associated with varying winds, vertical motion, sharp temperature changes and heavy precipitation. Fronts can remain stationary or they can move across the landscape. This unit will identify and describe various types of fronts and what they mean for weather changes.

Unusual hot spells and cold spells on the west coast of North America are associated with easily identifiable and predictable large sale pressure patterns and wind flow patterns, both near the surface of the earth and at the level of the jet stream in the upper atmosphere. This unit will describe how such hot and cold patterns originate and evolve.

THE BASICS BALLROOM PROGRAM
Teaching new to/beginner Ballroom Partner Dancing, we focus on accomplishing an understanding of basics Ballroom dance technique; including: Partnering (Lead vs Follow), Foot use, Rhythm, Posture, Sequencing and Character.
Each week builds on the previous week's lesson, so students are seeing constant progression.
Learning to dance can be a humbling experience but as professional ballroom instructors we strive to make learning as simple and fun as possible, using elementary teaching techniques, we capture knowledge with repetition, games and practical take home exercises.

What is your refund policy?
- For ongoing and series classes, refunds will be given in full up to the second class. (Lab and supply Fees will still be charged if not cancelled one week prior to class starting) After the second class, no refunds will be given.
- For one time classes cancellations must be received 48 hours in advance for a full refund. (Lab and supply Fees will still be charged if not cancelled one week prior to class starting). No refunds the night of class.
- Refunds for camps must be requested at least one week before camp begins.
- Classes cancelled by the Community School due to low enrollment will automatically entitle a student to a full refund.
- Classes cancelled due to weather are not refunded. We will try our best to reschedule.
Accomodations Notice
If you have special needs or a disability that require accommodations in order for you to attend or participate in a school meeting or event, please contact the Office of Special Services at (503) 655-2777 at least 48 hours in advance.
Privacy Info
Due to the nature of community school classes being held evenings, weekends, etc., instructors are provided with student names and phone numbers for emergency.
