Important Note for Guardians and Students

CELLPHONES, AIRPODS, AND SMART WATCHES WILL BE COLLECTED DAILY DURING TESTING. ONCE THE TESTING SESSION IS COMPLETE FOR ALL STUDENTS, THEY WILL BE GIVEN BACK. PLEASE TALK WITH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT COMPLYING WITH ELECTRONICS EXPECTATIONS! IF A PHONE HAS TO BE CONFISCATED, IT CAN BE HELD UNTIL TESTING IS OVER ON MAY 14TH.

News, Updates, and Reminders

  • *PLEASE READ* We want to continue asking that everyone ONLY use the car loop in the mornings and afternoons to pickup/drop off your students. Using the staff lot creates a safety issue for our kids. Please click on this link for details on our current procedures.



  • Did you know you can attend SBDM meetings? (Site Based Decision Making Council). There is a public input portion on the agenda, and you can bring any concerns or questions you have to the council. The council can either offer feedback or choose to put the input on the next agenda- but it is a chance to have your voice heard! All SBDM meetings take place in SMS Library. If you cannot attend an SBDM meeting and have input, you can also email to kevin.payne@fayette.kyschools.us.


  • Intramural Soccer at SMS!! They will have Open Fields on Fridays from 4-5pm if weather permits. Please come dressed accordingly and have your ride there by 5pm.


  • FCA (Fellow Christian Athletes) is continuing at SMS as well! They meet every Friday morning at 8am.


  • Dress Code Reminder- Students can only wear pajama pants on Fridays if they have maintained their eOS employability. Pajama pants are not permitted any other day than Friday unless a Spirit Week theme.

Rising 8th Graders Opportunity: Pre-Engineering Program at Southside Tech

Southside is currently accepting application for the 8th grade Pre-Engineering program. This is a program where students attend Southside for half a day for quarters 1 and 2. If you are interested, there is a sign up sheet outside of Mrs. Davis' room (Room 10).

This spring training is for any student interested, as 7th graders and 8th graders can play up in FCPS.

PBIS

SMS is a PBIS School. This stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. The eOS Store, school events, encouragement, mentoring groups, clubs, classroom/team prizes, etc. help us reward students who do the right thing!

A note from Ms. Cornett, the Attendance Specialist:

  • Procedure for Student Absences due to Illness and/or Appointments: If your student is absent, please have them bring an excuse note/doctor’s note to Ms. Cornett as soon as they return. Notes need to be returned within three days of the absence. Parents/guardians can also email a note to cari.cornett@fayette.kyschools.us
  • Parent notes must be HANDWRITTEN and have the date you wrote it, include the student's first and last name, date of dismissal and/or absence, the reason for early dismissal or absence, and a signature.
  • Doctor’s notes can’t be handwritten, they need to come from the doctor’s office your student was seen at. The note needs to include the student’s first and last name and date(s) of service.
  • Notes can also be faxed to 859-381-3588 Attn: Ms. Cornett

Mrs. Erin Fetko- Exceptional Child Educator

Mrs. Fetko is in her 19th year of teaching, and she started at SMS in 2008. She works with students in all grade levels, and is truly an advocate for those in our MSD room. In her free time she likes to spend time with her four children (ages 14, 11, 9, and 6). Her favorite part of being at SMS is the people, but especially her students. She is so proud to see their daily progress. She was recently named Special Education Teacher of the Year and is SO deserving! Thank you for what you do, Mrs. Fetko!
