Open Enrollment
This applies to students and their parents who reside in OTHER school districts (outside Dover).
Forms are available online beginning January 16 and ending March 1, 2024.
NOTE: Students who are approved for open enrollment must reapply each year.

100th Day of School

Valentine's Day
The Valentine's Day class parties will be held on Wednesday, February 14.
Head room parents will be in contact regarding the party for donations only.
Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA)
Students in grades Kindergarten through Twelfth grade who are multilingual will be participating in the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment. This is a state-mandated test for all students who speak multiple languages. The test consists of four different pieces including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Testing begins on February 12th and takes place over a span of four days with speaking being completed individually. Times vary depending on test administrators' availability so your child(ren) may participate in the testing at different times throughout the testing period. Please call the school with any questions.
Kindergarten Registration for 2024-2025
If your child will be 5 years old on or before August 1, you can enroll him/her in kindergarten for the 2024/2025 school year. Beginning January 16, 2024, you can complete the on-line enrollment by going to www.dovertornadoes.com and clicking on the parent tab. You will then click the box that says “New Student” and follow the instructions to complete the enrollment process. If your child is currently enrolled in our preschool, it is NOT necessary to complete the on-line enrollment. After completing this process, you will receive kindergarten paperwork in the mail. This paperwork will need to be completed and returned to the administration building. There will be an opportunity for you to visit South School, Meet the Teachers and receive some information during our Kindergarten Orientation night on March 21st from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM. If you have questions, please call our enrollment office at (330) 364-7144.
Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices
Students who bring cell phones, “smart watches,” or electronic devices are to leave them turned off and in their lockers during the school day.
Change of Transportation
If there are any changes in your child's end-of-the-school day transportation procedures, please be sure to send a note to your child's teacher. If the teacher does not receive a note from you, your child will be sent home using their normal routine. Please do not send transportation changes through email or ClassDojo, as it may not be received in a timely manner. You are encouraged to call the school office with any last-minute changes by 2:30.
Child Find Efforts Special Education Pupil Search
Through Public Law-IDEA, school districts around the state of Ohio are joining together in an effort to identify, locate, and evaluate children from birth through age twenty-one who may have disabilities such as physical, emotional, visual, hearing, speech, and learning disabilities. Many unidentified children with disabilities are preschoolers, and parents may not be aware their child has a disability or that there are programs and services available to assist them. Anyone who knows of a child, who may have a disability, should contact Gina Franks, Dover City Schools' Student Services Coordinator, at 330-364-7124.
Lost & Found
If your child has lost their hat, lunchbox, coat, or water bottle, there is a good chance it may be in the school's Lost and Found. All found items are collected and placed in the Lost and Found bin located in the lobby area. To ensure the speedy return of your child's belongings, please label them. However, if your child has lost something this school year, it's important to check the bin as soon as possible.
Winter Weather
Let's stay warm!
As the temperatures are dropping and winter weather sets in, it is important to remember to send warm clothing such as a coat, gloves, and hat with your child to school. Our children will still go outside for recess, unless the temperature is dangerously low. Additionally, if your child is dropped off or walks to school, please ensure that they are not arriving too early as they will not be allowed to enter the building until 8:40 AM. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our students warm and safe during the winter season.
2-Hour Delay
On a 2-hour delay, all schools will open two hours later than normal and will end at the regular time.

Help Us in Supporting A Good Cause!
Dover Elementary Schools are joining forces to participate in the Rainbow Connection Drive. The Rainbow Connection is a non-profit charity dedicated to meeting the needs of the disadvantaged and disabled residents of our county. Some of the services and programs they provide:
Medical supplies, bills, and equipment
Prescription assistance
Technological assistance
Childrens’ services such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis, etc.
The Rainbow Connection has partnered with Dover City Schools over the years and helped us to provide equipment and services for our students and families. We would now like to give back to this organization.
Students will participate in TWO special dress-up days. Students are asked to make donations in whatever amount families see fit. We are encouraging $0.50 for these days!
