The Primary Connection
October 25, 2024
Notes from the Office
This past week, we had a number of important activities aimed at promoting safety and awareness throughout our school community.
Learning ALICE: Students were introduced to the ALICE protocol, an important safety procedure designed to help keep everyone safe in emergency situations. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, and students learned how to respond effectively in various scenarios.
SADD Student Involvement: Our Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) members took time to visit classrooms and read books related to safety, helping to reinforce these important lessons with younger students.
Fire Department Visit: We were also excited to have the local Fire Department visit, complete with a fire truck! Students had the opportunity to explore the truck and learn more about fire safety from the professionals who keep our community safe.

Halloween/Fall Parties
Edwardsburg has a long standing custom of not having Halloween parties. This year, the K-3 buildings are going to try to have costume parties. However, we are placing some pretty strict guidelines on costumes for two reasons: 1) we need to protect the innocence of our young students and 2) what might not be scary for some students, may be terrifying for others.
Party information will come from individual classrooms.
When picking out a costume for your child, please follow the following guidelines:
- All costumes are to be appropriate for school and should not be offensive in design or intent.
- Costumes cannot feature inappropriate themes or characters or reference drugs/alcohol etc.
- Props including plastic swords, guns, wands, bows, arrows, etc. are not permitted. If brought to school, these items will be held in the office until a parent/guardian can pick them up.
- Please avoid costumes that are overly scary, including any variance of a clown costume.
- Face painting and hair coloring should be done at home.
- No "blood"
We would really like this to be a fun event for our students, so please help us make it fun for everyone by adhering to our costume requests.
Parent University - ALICE Training
If you were unable to make it to the Parent University Training that focused on ALICE, please see the attachments so you are familiar with this protocol that the district has adopted.
Conferences
Parent conferences are right around the corner and we strive to have 100% participation at the Primary. If you have not yet scheduled your conference time, please see the list below to schedule with your child's teacher.
