Dear HA community,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of David Greenier, a beloved member of the Hampden Academy family, who passed away this week at the age of 82. David retired after more than 50 years of service to RSU 22, where he worked in a variety of roles, including teacher, assistant principal, facilities director, and student council advisor. Originally from Caribou, David became a well-known and respected figure throughout the Bangor area.
David was much more than an educator—he was a mentor and guide to countless students. He often went above and beyond to support those in need, providing school supplies, athletic gear, or even financial help, all while refusing anything in return. His presence at Hampden Academy was undeniable, and while he had a serious side, David’s quick wit and sense of humor were legendary. He was always good for a one-liner and had a playful teasing nature that brought joy to those around him.
In 2012, in recognition of his years of dedication, the dining commons at Hampden Academy was named in his honor—a fitting tribute to someone who spent so much time engaging with students and staff there. David Greenier’s legacy lives on through the memories and stories shared by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He truly bled purple and white and will be deeply missed.
David’s family is in my thoughts during this sad time, and I hope they find comfort in the many wonderful memories he left behind.
