We would like to inform you that the school schedule for the week of October 21, 2024 has been changed. All days that week, including Wednesday, October 23, will be modified student days.
The non-student day will be moved to Friday, October 18, 2024 to improve consistency across all elementary schools and streamline our report card process. Again, Friday the 18th of October will be a day off of school for students.
We understand that this schedule change may disrupt your plans, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and flexibility as we adjust our calendar.
School Site Council Elections
Our first School Site Council Meeting is coming up on Tuesday, October 15 at 3:15 in the MPR. Each year, we are required to vote in new members of the School Site Council. Please take the following survey to vote in two new parent members to the Adams Elementary School Site Council.
This Week at Adams Elementary
In the past week, Adams Elementary have been transformed into a vibrant canvas of creativity as students from every grade have immersed themselves in the world of art, drawing inspiration from the legendary Henry Matisse. The initiative, led by our dedicated Art Masters program, has allowed our students to explore their artistic talents and produce breathtaking masterpieces. Under the guidance of passionate teachers and with the support of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), students across all classes have delved into Matisse's unique style, characterized by bold colors. Together, let's make our school a canvas of inspiration and imagination!
Congratulations to the 2nd-grade students at Adams Elementary for reaching their Accelerated Reading benchmark! Your hard work and dedication to reading has paid off, and we are so proud of your achievement. Keep up the great work, and continue to explore the exciting world of books!
Last week, Mrs. Brown’s class had the best attendance of the week. All of her students were in class 98% of the week. AMAZING work. Did you know that absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up
The staff and students at Adams Elementary celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day. We appreciate Mr. Antonio, Mr. Dakota and Ms. Mirna for their tireless dedication to our campus. The outpouring of respect for our custodians was a site to see this morning at Flag Deck!
We want to send a huge thank you to the Pre-School and TK teams, Coach Kyle, and KT Productions for supporting our Pre-School and TK students with their dance performance on Friday. Our students did an amazing job!!!
Here are some tips to help your student with good attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
- Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- If your child must stay home due to extended, ask the teacher or office for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.

Thinking Maps💭
This week, our teachers will focus on rolling out the final Thinking Map, the Bridge Map. The Bridge Map is used for seeing analogies and relationships. The Bridge Map should have a relating factor that allows the analogy to be read as a complete sentence.
This Map helps clarify information by showing how different topics or concepts are related to each other. Take a few minutes to engage in a family activity that will reinforce this type of thinking and learning for your child at home.

Volunteer Information
We are happy to welcome volunteers to our campus. Volunteering is a perfect opportunity to become more familiar with our school and support your child’s teacher.
Adams volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application through the NMUSD website and check in at the office each time through our Raptor System. Please see the link: NMUSD Volunteers. Once your application is approved, you will receive a notification. All cleared volunteers will then complete an orientation at Adams.
Please note that field trip volunteers need to go through the volunteer/visitor system before attending a field trip.
Neighborhood Peer Program
Newport-Mesa Unified School District is looking for preschool-aged children to participate in our Neighborhood Peer Program.
The program prepares young learners for success in kindergarten, as they participate in small and large group classroom settings, and cooperative play activities.
For more information call: (949) 889-3669, or email: npp@nmusd.us
Attendance
Attendance is very important to a child’s success in school. Students are expected to be here each day on time and ready to learn. However, we understand that there are occasions where an absence may occur. Please be sure to contact the absence hotline to report all absences at 714-424-4702.
Did you know? Research shows that chronically absent students (students with 10% absences over the school year = 18 absences) are less likely to read on grade level by 3rd grade, are more likely to score lower on standardized tests, get suspended in middle school, and are at least four times more likely to not complete high school.
Attendance Matters!!!
Safety Protocols
All teachers and Adams staff have been trained on the Standard Response Protocol. This protocol allows everyone on site to use clear and common language during emergency responses. Whenever emergency drills are held at Adams Elementary (dates are all posted on the Adams Elementary website), we will inform our parent community through our weekly newsletter.
