Coupeville School District
The CONNECT - June 2023
Superintendent Message
Hello, Coupeville Community!
We recently wrapped up the 2022-2023 school year and as we go into summer this is a great time to reflect on this year's accomplishments and begin to prepare for the 2023-2024 school year. This the first school year we have had since 2018-2019 that was not significantly impacted and disrupted by pandemic mitigations. The impacts of the past few years will continue to be seen for years to come in things like the impact on student learning and overall well-being for adults and children. Having said that, I am optimistic that with our new Strategic Plan, great community support and the dedication of our staff that we can continue to help our students heal and recover.
As always, if you ever have any questions don't hesitate to contact me at: sking@coupeville.k12.wa.us
Have a wonderful summer and Go Wolves!

Summer Capital Projects
In February of 2022, our community approved 3 levy measures including our "Building Excellence" levy. This summer we will begin two initial projects that were approved by the voters. These are relocating the tennis courts to just west of our High School gym and adding a new Transportation Department building and space for safer bus flow at the middle/high school. These projects will begin soon and we hope to have them completed by the time school opens in September. Thank you Coupeville Voters for your support!
Instructional Materials Update
After a few years of no curriculum reviews the district reinstated the Instructional Materials Committee (IMC). This year we spent time reviewing our math curriculum. Recently we adopted a new secondary math curriculum called Desmos. We are excited to provide this new curriculum for our students with the goal of improved student achievement for all students. To see the details on our Curriculum review and adoption process please see our policy and procedure.
Retiring Staff Members
We have three staff members retiring this year who have all dedicated a great portion of their lives to Coupeville students. These staff members are:
Trish Didier who spent 30 years teaching including 27 years teaching at Coupeville Elementary School.
Alice Widdison who served as a paraeducator in our district in multiple positions and schools since 2005. She has worked with children for 30 years of her career.
Denise Peet has over 30 years in education with 30.5 years as a business manager. She has served as the Coupeville business director for the past 10 years.
Congratulations to Trish, Alice, and Denise! We are thankful for you and wish you all the best!
