Sprague'sGiving Celebrates School Diversity
We wanted to take a moment to reflect on Sprague'sGiving! Our school community came together to celebrate the richness of our diverse backgrounds and shared love for food as witnessed in these photos! It was a special evening filled with laughter, connection, and delicious dishes from around the world. Families brought their favorite home-cooked meals, sharing flavors and traditions. We learned about each other's cultures and made new connections in our community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success. We had such a wonderful time that we decided we needed to do this again later this school year! So look for a future event where we can gather, share food, and build our community! Anyone who eats is invited!
Upcoming Events
- No School: Monday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 29, Thanksgiving Break.
Crossing Guard Services End Friday
The season will end on Friday, Nov. 22, for crossing guard assistance in District 103. Students who walk or bike to school should take extra precautions between now and spring break 2025. There will be no crossing guards:
- For Sprague School at the intersection of Riverwoods Road and Yorkshire Drive
For Riverwoods and Half Day Roads
Or in front of Daniel Wright Junior High School
Police Assistance for Student Safety
We have enlisted the assistance of the Lincolnshire Police Department to help with drop off and pick up procedures, as some parents and caregivers have not been following the school guidelines, leading to unsafe and congested traffic patterns during these times.
Please refrain from parking along Kings Cross Drive during drop off and pick up times. Doing so makes it difficult for buses to exit the circle driveway safely and contributes to traffic congestion and delays.
For everyone's safety, use the designated drop off lane instead of parking and walking through traffic, as this creates unnecessary risks for both students and drivers.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient environment for all students. Thank you!
Registration Now Open for Mandarin Club
We are excited to offer a new after-school opportunity for the students at Sprague School: a Chinese Mandarin Culture & Language Club! This club will allow our young students to learn the Mandarin language while experiencing the richness of Chinese culture through fun, interactive activities. The club will run alongside our other after school programs starting in January, with sessions designed specifically for our K-2 students. The last date to register is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The club will run after school every Tuesday beginning Jan. 14, through Tuesday, May 20. Students will need to be picked up by their parents promptly at 3:30 p.m.

Brad's Bookworms Initiative
Congressman Brad Schneider is launching the sixth annual "Brad's Bookworms" program to encourage reading and learning for elementary school students (grades K-5) and their families!
Children participating in the program are asked to read and log 10 books with help from parents, grandparents, older siblings, or other family members, and track their progress toward this goal. Young people who meet the 10 books goal will be invited with their families to a recognition ceremony with Congressman Schneider to celebrate their achievement. The deadline to complete logs is Sunday, Feb. 2.
Join the Library's Celebration
Please join the Vernon Area Public Library in celebrating its 50th Anniversary on Friday, Nov. 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This after hours, adults-only event is a fundraiser to support the expansion of our MakerSpace and Library of Things, giving us even more opportunities to engage with members of the community.
