FALCON Updates MS & HS
June 2024
MATH 1 CAMPS!
Our super successful Math camps are back!
One camp is for rising 9th grade students who are taking Math 1 for the first time.
The second camp is for students who will be taking the high school Math 1 course in Middle School. if you don't know if you are in this category, please email rpillen@thencla.org or dlandphair@thencla.org.
Community Service Hours
All high school students must have at least 25 community service hours each year. These hours must be turned in on paper to Ms Tucker. The calendar starts June 1st and runs until May 31st. Completing these hours over the summer is the easiest for students who are involved in sports or students who work. Hours must be completed at non-profit organization, 501C3's only. Completing hours at for profit organizations, or using time spent babysitting or mowing yards will not be accepted. Also, any online non-profit organizations will not be accepted.
Not completing hours will result in the loss of privileges. Student will not be able to take Driver's Ed, get a parking spot, leave campus for lunches, use the gym during first lunches, go to dances, participate in senior awards and graduation, as well as many other non-academic. Students may not be able to try out for sports if their hours from the previous year are not completed.
If you have any questions, please reach out to gtucker@thencla.org or awood@thencla.org. Forms and all relevant information as well as some opportunities are on the NCLA.org website > Student and Family Resources > Student Counseling > High School.
Schedules???
There may be times during the summer that you will be able to see schedules for next year. These are a work in progress and are by no means final. Please don't believe what you see through the summer. Finalized schedules will be available on your open house nights. Please reference those dates below.
Driver's Education
There is not a Driver's Ed class scheduled for the summer at the NCLA and to date, one has not been scheduled yet for the Fall. So if you have a student who is going to be 14 1/2 or older and is looking for a class, you may want to consider either one of the public schools near you, or one of the private options.
As soon as one gets scheduled, I will send out a sign up on Remind.
Ready to get your Driver's Permit?
Driver's eligibility forms can be completed in the summer at the high school from office Mondays through Thursdays from 9-3. Students must bring with them their course completion certificate and be in good academic standing. Please don't wait until the last minute.
No one will be available to help you with your certificates on June 18, 19, 20 and the week of July 4. Plan accordingly.
High School Summer Reading!
Students, before summer kicks in and the end of the year is upon us, remember you have summer reading for the next school year. CLICK HERE for the summer reading folder. Please also take a look at the Common Types of Plagiarism document in the folder from the University of Arizona so you can avoid falling into any of the pitfalls.
Also, if you have any assigned novels or books that you purchased for this year that you don't need again, please consider donating them to the English teachers so they can have them on hand for students who need them next year.
Middle School Summer Reading!
All middle school students are required to complete summer reading before the first day of school. Students will be tested on their comprehension and knowledge of the books at the beginning of the school year. Now is a great time to get a head start !
Rising 6th Graders: Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry
Rising 7th Graders: Students have the option of reading either The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordian or Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz.
Rising 8th Graders: The Boys in the Boat (Young Readers Adaptation) by Daniel James Brown
