Insights
Empowering your child with strong mathematical skills is a collaborative effort that begins at home. Here are some practical tips to strengthen your child's mathematical abilities:
Build a Strong Foundation:
Encourage practice and mastery of fundamental operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Practice Regularly:
Establish a consistent and structured practice routine at home using various resources, including books, online platforms, and worksheets, to reinforce mathematical concepts.
Make it Real-World:
Relate mathematical concepts to everyday situations to make them more relatable.
Cooking Together: Involve your child in measuring ingredients, understanding fractions, and adjusting recipes. Discuss concepts like doubling or halving measurements.
Grocery Shopping: Ask your child to compare prices, calculate discounts, or estimate the total cost of items. Introduce the concept of budgeting by setting spending limits for certain categories.
Home Improvement Projects: Measure spaces for furniture or paint, and involve your child in calculating areas and dimensions.
Gardening: Discuss concepts of area and perimeter when planning and planting a garden.
Game Night: Play board games or card games that involve counting, strategy, and probability.
Reading a Map: Use maps during family outings to discuss distances, scales, and directions. Introduce the concept of coordinates when reading a map.
By incorporating math into these daily activities, parents reinforce mathematical concepts and demonstrate how math is an integral part of our lives. This approach helps children see the practical applications of math and fosters a positive attitude toward the subject.
Holiday Season Reminders โ๏ธ
As we enter the holiday season, just a reminder about our school's dress code policy for hats and headbands.
To ensure a focused learning environment, please follow these guidelines:
Hats, including holiday-themed ones, aren't allowed inside except on reward or spirit days. This helps maintain respect and focus during class.
Festive headbands are allowed but should be flat and not distracting. Avoid excessive decorations, lights, or large ornaments to prevent disruptions.
Headbands of any kind should be flat to ensure they don't block views or pose safety risks.
Thanks for your cooperation in maintaining a positive learning environment.
Winter Advisory:
As we approach the winter months, we would like to remind you of some important guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of our students during the colder weather. Please take a moment to review and adhere to the following reminders:
Dressing Appropriately:
As the temperatures drop, it's crucial to dress your child appropriately in layers to keep them warm both in class and during outdoor recess activities. Make sure they have a jacket, hat, and gloves to stay comfortable during the colder weather.
Labeling Belongings:
To avoid any mix-ups, please label all your child's belongings, including jackets, hats, gloves, and lunchboxes, with their names. This will help us quickly return any misplaced items to the right owner.
Arrival and Dismissal Safety:
During arrival and dismissal times, we ask for your cooperation in making the process as smooth and safe as possible. Follow staff directions diligently during parent drop-off and pick-up times, and never enter the bus loop until after 8:30 am and 3:15 pm. Additionally, please avoid dropping students off on Swanson Road, as it is neither safe nor permitted. Instead, enter the parent drop-off line via the main entrance to our school grounds.
Arrival Time:
Arrival time begins at 8:15 am, and the school day starts promptly at 8:30 am. Students arriving after the 8:30 am late bell will be marked tardy. They will receive a pink Late Arrival Notice to bring home at the end of the day so you are aware.
Your cooperation in following these guidelines is greatly appreciated and contributes to the overall safety and efficiency of our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.

Words to Ponder ๐ค
One night four college kids stayed out late having a good time. They paid no mind to the test they had scheduled for the next day and didnโt study. In the morning, they hatched a plan to get out of taking their test. They covered themselves with grease and dirt and went to the Deanโs office. Once there, they said they had been to a wedding the previous night and on the way back they got a flat tire and had to push the car back to campus.
The Dean listened to their tale of woe and thought. He offered them a retest three days later. They thanked him and accepted his offer.
When the test day arrived, they went to the Dean. The Dean put them all in separate rooms for the test. They were fine with this since they had all studied hard. Then they saw the test. It had 2 questions.
1) Your Name __________ (1 Points)
2) Which tire burst? __________ (99 Points)
Options โ (a) Front Left (b) Front Right (c) Back Left (d) Back Right
The lesson: always be responsible and make wise decisions.
