Thoughts from Mrs. Ambrosio
"I don't need very much now," said the boy. "just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired." "Well," said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could, "well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest."
And the boy did. And the tree was happy.”
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Dear Parents.
When I was growing up, the book The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein was one of my favorites. I am not sure that I could have articulated why at the time, but as I grew older, I grew to love the book more and more. The beauty in the story is that it has spoken to me at every stage of my life. What stands out to me now is its ending, where the boy simply needs a place to sit down and rest, and the tree can give that. Although the book, The Giving Tree, was written in 1964, the final lines in the story apply to the fast pace of life in 2024. Sometimes we all need to take a moment to sit and rest. Sometimes we just need someone to sit with us. We can’t always be everything to everyone, even though it can feel that way, but we can be like the Giving Tree. We can be the place where our children lean when they need to rest. For it is in resting where we often hear God most clearly. Psalm 46 “Be still and know that I am God!”
God Bless,
Rachel
