Magi Messenger: January 13, 2025
Superintendent Message - Welcome To 2025
Greetings Families, Staff, and Community Members,
This Magi Messenger may feel a little lighter than usualβlast semester kept us incredibly busy (you probably noticed! π ). As we dive into the new year, our calendar is a bit quieter, empowering our teachers and staff to focus on academics. We'll continue our focus on growing and learning as we build on the progress our students have had. If you have thoughts about your studentβs programming or how the new year of learning is shaping up, please donβt hesitate to reach out to Principal Braman or Principal Wielenga or I.
I wanted to share a special moment from the start of our break. That Saturday morning, just after break began, I visited the Legion, where some students were eagerly waiting to meet Santa and then realized Mr. Dooleyβs Elementary Basketball Camp was happening so I stopped by to check it out... lots of activity. While Mr. Dooley, Coach Sanders, and amazing student volunteers were teaching basketball skills, the star in the eyes of our younger students may have been elementary Art & Music Teacher Ms. Brigham, who was sharing her basketball skills with a large group of CES studentsβit was such a heartwarming scene to start the break. I hope you and your families experienced similar heartwarming moments.
Happy 2025, Magi Families!

The Importance of Attendance, Even in the Winter Months
As the days stay a little darker, colder, and snowier, we know it can be tempting to miss a day here and there. Itβs also the season when illness is more prevalent, so we want to remind everyone to stay healthy, and come to school when youβre feeling well. Consistent attendance is so important for your childβs learning, growth, and success. And speaking of the snow & cold - we also know this is usually the time of year when snow days make a surprise appearance, and so far, weβve only had two! βοΈ Hopefully, you might get a day or two to enjoy the beauty of winter together before spring rolls around. As you know we take the decision to cancel school very seriously, and sometimes it is necessary. Until then, bundle up, stay warm, and weβll see you at school! πβοΈ

Creating Magic in Education: School Board Recognition Month
Our district proudly joins 537 local school districts and 56 intermediate school districts across Michigan in celebrating January as School Board Recognition Month. School boards play a vital role in supporting student achievement by focusing on policy-making and collaboratively establishing a vision for our schools. We encourage everyone in our community, state, and nation to salute the individuals who provide grassroots governance for public schools. Please join me in thanking our dedicated board members, including those newly elected, for their commitment to public service and efforts to work collaboratively for our students and community.
