Being Collected: EMPTY & CLEAN Cereal Boxes!
WE ARE AT 65 BOXES... STILL NEED 35 MORE!!!!
As we begin preparations for Read Across America, we have a special school wide and community outreach project planned. For this project, we will need at least 125 EMPTY and CLEAN Cereal Boxes (from cereals that are peanut and tree nut free). If you have any EMPTY & CLEAN Cereal Boxes, please have your child bring it to the Main Office at Nixon School. Thank you to everyone who has donated boxes... please keep them coming!
Being Collected: Gently Used Age Appropriate (PreK-4) Books
As part of our Read Across America festivities, Mrs. Oliynik, our Leave Replacement Art Teacher, is working with all of our students to decorate the cereal boxes that are being donated so that the boxes look like books! These decorated boxes are going to be used as "gift boxes" of sorts and we are going to put an assortment of gently used books and donate the boxes to various organizations. Our final list of organizations will be dependent upon how many "gift boxes filled with books" we can create! Once gently used books begin to roll in, if we find that we have enough for our project, Mrs. Lynch will send out an email asking that donations stop. Thank you for helping us to bring the love of reading to others.
NES PTA Hosts a READ A THON!
Nixon Elementary PTA has decided to hold a Read-a-thon this year! Read-a-thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more. Our Read-a-thon starts Monday, February 26, 2024.
About one week before our Read-a-thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323738363539/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-a-thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
We hope EVERYONE participates.
Thanks so much,
Nixon Elementary PTA

All it takes is a student, possibly along with their family, working together to complete and submit this form with a suggested, BRIEF Public Service Announement focused on one of our Sustainability themes.
