A Note from Our Principals
Hello Waubesa Families,
Fall conferences are in full swing this week. Thank you for taking time to meet with your child’s teacher. The goal of conferences is to highlight what your student is doing well and ways we can work together to support them. If you have any concerns to share, it’s helpful for you to communicate that with your child’s teacher prior to attending the conference.
As a reminder, there are four opportunities for us to formally communicate student progress with families. However, we encourage you to communicate with teachers via Seesaw any time.
Two parent-teacher conferences. One of which is in the fall and the other is in the spring. Families are encouraged to communicate with teachers beyond these scheduled conferences.
Report cards are made available on Infinite Campus at the conclusion of each semester.
Related Arts Open House conferences will occur on Thursday, November 7, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Families are welcome to meet with the Related Arts teachers to discuss what exciting activities we have been working on and to check in and see how their students are doing. Some of the Related Arts teachers will be located in their teaching space (such as the Art Room, Music Room, or Computer lab), while others will be located in the library (such as Mr. Williquette, Mrs. Vitse, and Mrs. Evans). We can’t wait to share the Related Arts experience with you and your family.
If you have any questions or suggestions throughout the school year, we encourage you to use this form. We appreciate hearing directly from families when they have questions or concerns; thank you.
Thank you for your continued support. Soaring Higher Together!
Corey Shefchik: Principal
Brooke Hauser: K-5 Associate Principal

Pneumonia on the Rise
Per WI DHS Mycoplasma pneumonia (M. pneumoniae or walking pneumonia) activity is increasing nationwide and in Wisconsin. Every three to seven years an increase in M. pneumoniae cases are identified in the United States. People of all ages are at risk for getting M. pneumoniae infection, but it is most common among young adults and school-aged children. There is no vaccine to prevent M. pneumoniae infection. For moderate to severe cases, antibiotic therapy can be prescribed by a clinician. Please view the CDC website for additional information and resources. If you have a cough, fever, run down/extremely tired, difficulty/painful breathing we recommend that you contact your healthcare provider.
Please review our Guidelines for sending your child to school. Remember, if your child is sick please keep them home and seek medical evaluation as needed. Students will be sent home with the following symptoms:
Temperature above 100.4°F
Vomiting or diarrhea
Frequent uncontrollable cough
Your child should remain at home until fever, vomiting/diarrhea has stopped for 24 hours without the use of medication. If they have been prescribed antibiotics, please see the MSD Health Services Handbook and DHS Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Disease guidelines for when they may return to school. As well, please notify the School/Health Office if your student has tested positive for a communicable disease such as: Influenza/Flu, Covid 19, Pneumonia, Strep Throat, RSV, Hand Foot & Mouth, Pertussis, etc.
Thank you for your partnership as we work to keep our students and staff healthy and safe each day!

McFarland School District Awarded 2024-25 Sparks Grant for Community Inclusion
The Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (WI-BPDD) has awarded the McFarland School District a 2024-25 Sparks grant to enhance community connections and inclusion for people with disabilities. Sparks grants fund efforts that create meaningful social connections, help organizations build inclusive programs, and encourage community members to develop a greater understanding of people with disabilities.
The McFarland School District, in collaboration with McFarland Recreation, Aquatics, and Play, will establish a local advisory board that includes people with disabilities, their families, and community members. The advisory board will offer input on recreational activities, ensuring they are more welcoming and accessible, and it will guide the creation of accessible resources, including an updated brochure, website, and registration process. Planned programming includes expanding activities for all ages, with a focus on those under three and over 18. This grant will ultimately enhance programming, improve access to adaptive equipment, and engage the entire community. More information is available at WI-BPDD’s website.
