Dear Jefferson Families,
Happy January and Welcome to 2025! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with family and friends. Please read our newsletter as it highlights important information.
Outdoor Recess: Please ensure that your child comes to school with layers, a coat, gloves, a hat, etc. to stay warm when outdoors.
Code of Conduct: As we enter the new year, students will be reminded of expectations, rewards, and consequences. Please review expectations with your child at home as well. School-home communication is important, you will be updated on your child's progress throughout the school year. We will have student grade level meetings during the month of January to reinforce schoolwide expectations. SPS Elementary Code of Conduct
We hope you enjoy the pictures below which include fun events/activities that took place during the month of December.

A Message from Our School Counselor: Ms. Mortenson
Dear Jefferson families,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and winter break. December was filled with fun, monthly activities!
In first grade, we read Even Superheroes Have Bad Days and discussed different calming strategies to use when we get upset or frustrated. Students also designed their own superhero masks to remind them that they have the power to choose how they react to a bad day or moment in their day.
Second, third and fourth grade students reviewed some of the lesson information we have gone over so far this year with a holiday Blooket that I created. They had a great time playing together, while showing positive attitudes and good sportsmanship. We reviewed the questions and answers after each game.
Fifth grade students are working hard on creating different types of games (card games, board games, interactive games) based on a counseling topic such as friendship, emotions or respect. They have been working in small groups and collaborating with each step of the design process. At the end of January, the fifth graders will get to invite the first graders to try out their games. This lesson allows not only for teamwork skills to be enhanced, but also gives the students an opportunity to teach the younger students about the topic they chose in a fun, interactive way.
I look forward to sharing our January highlights with you in February’s newsletter, which will also highlight National School Counseling Week!
