Things to Remember About High School
GRADES and ATTENDANCE matter! Your grades and attendance earn your credits. You must pass your classes with an overall average of 70 or higher for the year and be present at least 90% of the semester to earn your credit. If you miss more than 10 days with excused or unexcused absences, your credit can be denied for attendance. The 90% rule also applies with tardies: you must be present 90% of the class period. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you are counted absent.
Graduation requirements
Lubbock ISD defaults all students to the distinguished graduation plan which requires a minimum of 26 credits including an endorsement to graduate. The 26 credits are broken down into subject requirements.
GPA & Class Rank
-GPA for freshmen is released in January
-GPA for sophomores is released in September and January.
*AP, Pre-AP, Honors, dual credit, and On Ramps courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies have the potential to carry weight if they are in your top 16 courses.
PSAT and ASVAB Information
PSAT: Each year in Mid-October, Monterey offers the PSAT 8/9 to all 9th and 10th graders. This test is free for LISD 9th and 10th grade students, and students are automatically registered. More information regarding the PSAT is linked below.
ASVAB: The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a standardized test that helps determine a person's suitability for military service and job training. It measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. It's given to students in grades 10–12 and to applicants joining the U.S. Air Force, Army, and National Guard. The ASVAB assesses a person's abilities in four domains: verbal, math, science and technical, and spatial. It covers ten subject areas, including general sciences, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, and paragraph comprehension. The test also evaluates a person's ability to learn different subject areas and their propensity to succeed in certain careers. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school and post-secondary students.
Monterey High School will offer the ASVAB on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 during 1st-4th periods. Students will be excused from their classes to participate in this exam. Students can register on the testing page of the MHS website or using the link below.
