Newsletter Week 9 Term 1
Reporoa College 1st April 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Good Afternoon
Today we celebrate the achievements to date of our students in term one’s investiture ceremony. Well done to all students that receive an award, certificate or position today.
We also celebrate the sporting achievements of our students for events and activities held during the term.
In the first two weeks of term two we begin surveying all students to find out what activities they would like available to them over lunchtime. This initiative is through the Healthy Action Programme run through Sport Bay of Plenty. With the appointment of student leaders we should be able to begin lunchtime activities that are engaging and enable the students to be active during this time.
As we move into Term 2 and 3 attendance will be vital for all students as this is the time that the bulk of the learning will take place for the year. Extensive research has shown that poor attendance correlates with poor academic performance. Please consider this if you are taking students from school for reasons other than medical or family emergencies. Ideally, a student needs to be attending above 90 percent.
Over the Easter break information will be sent to all families on how to access the parent portal and other online resources for parents. These vital tools help you monitor your students progress, receive information and keep up to date with school events.
In November 2020, a law was passed that made it illegal to smoke or vape on government property. With this in mind the college is now going to take a hard line of any students involved in this activity. If this is a health issue we are more than happy to facilitate health services that deal with addiction.
Finally, I wish you all a happy Easter and enjoy some time with your family.
