OSS Parents and Students Complete the ADvanced Sacs/Casi Survey Today
Dear Parents,
As Orlando Science Middle High School is an AdvancED SACS/CASI accredited school, we are engaged in an ongoing continuous improvement process, of which all stakeholders are a part. Surveys are a means to systematically engage all our stakeholders in two-way communication. They provide school leaders and teachers a view into the thinking and perceptions of our stakeholders.
Careful analysis of the results enriches understanding of areas of strength and effectiveness as well as those areas that possibly need improvement. The survey results will enable our school leaders to measure stakeholders’ attitudes and help target improvement strategies focused on student achievement as well as school and system effectiveness.
Taking the survey also will help stakeholders understand the AdvancED Standards for Quality and provide a means for learning about what a parent, student or staff member should be looking for in a high quality at Orlando Science Middle/High.
Your cooperation and support in completing the surveys will be greatly appreciated. The surveys will remain open by Friday, March 30th at 11:59 p.m. Please let me know should you have any questions
Sincerely,
Abdulaziz Yalcin, M.Ed.Principal

Lynx Lane Campus Celebrates Black History Month
The Lynx Lane Campus is pleased to celebrate "Black History Month"! Each week we will feature one influential African-American who helped shaped our society today! This week we are pleased to feature Ronald McNair.
"African-American physicist and astronaut Ronald McNair was one of the seven crew members killed in the 1986 Space Shuttle 'Challenger' explosion.
Born in South Carolina in 1950, Ronald became an MIT-trained physicist who specialized in laser research before joining NASA in the late 1970s. In February 1984, he became just the second African American to reach space, serving as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. On January 28, 1986, he was one of the seven crew members killed when the Challenger shockingly exploded 73 seconds after liftoff."
For more information on Ronald McNair please visit:

We will try our best to accommodate your requests. All final placement decisions will be made by the administration and guidance departments after reviewing students' end of year grades and test scores.

Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park Field Trip Recap
Last Friday, OSS students traveled to Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park to observe historic presentations at the site of Florida’s largest Civil War battle. Students observed authentic military and civilian camps, listened to period music, played Civil War era games and learned about battlefield surgical practices. The Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park commemorates the largest Civil War battle fought in Florida. On February 20, 1864 more than 10,000 cavalry, infantry, and artillery troops fought a five-hour battle in the pine forest east of Olustee. The battle ended with the retreat of Union troops to Jacksonville.

FortifyFL app is now Available
OSS Families: See the important message below regarding FortifyFlorida.
We are pleased to announce that the FortifyFL app is LIVE. Now, any student, educator, parent or member of the public can report school safety concerns directly to law enforcement and school administrators anonymously and easily through the FortifyFL app or www.getfortifyfl.com. The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
The app, which is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices, is critical to ensuring all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear.
We hope that you will become familiar with this tool and help us spread the word about it with your students and their families. Please note that the official app’s logo will look exactly as it does in the graphic above.
