PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Parents,
While District 64 has a comprehensive “Food Allergy Management Plan” already in place, it is important to make sure our daily practices here at Roosevelt align with this plan. Further, we need to establish clear guidelines for all parents and staff to ensure our district-wide policy is being followed in a consistent manner. With this in mind, below I have listed some information for parents regarding food at Roosevelt:
1. “Parents should not send food treats to school for their children’s birthdays. These sugary treats also pose a health risk to children with food allergies.” (District 64 Student Handbook)
2. Classroom Rewards: Teachers are directed not to use candy or treats as rewards. As a substitute, teachers are encouraged to use non-food items for these purposes.
3. Snacks at School: We want students to bring fruits or vegetables for snack time. If an exception to this rule needs to be made, please contact Dr. Dwyer or your classroom teacher so we can work with you.
Thank you for helping to make our school environment healthy and safe for everyone.
Have a wonderful day!
Dr. Dwyer
