Classroom Highlights
Mrs. Kerkove's Class
Happy Learning in the Classroom!
This month, we cracked open some egg-citing STEM and math activities using Easter eggs! Students participated in an Easter egg hunt where each egg contained coins, which they later used to “shop” at Mrs. Kerkove’s Easter Store—practicing money skills in a fun, hands-on way. We also explored Easter egg patterns, tested our engineering skills by stacking eggs, and measured different objects using jelly beans. It was a sweet and educational way to hop into spring!
Mrs. Skiff's Class
Spring has sprung in Mrs. Skiff's P.E. and art class! When the weather allows, we are exercising and playing gym games in the courtyard. The kids are learning about hockey, soccer, basketball, badminton, and the names of their muscles. Ask your kindergartener or first grade student how many muscles they have! In art class, students are working on some great pieces for the Art Show. Please join us May 8th, to see your student's artwork.
Mr. Johnson's Class
In Mr. Johnson’s class, students are reading novels in small reading circles, and each person in the group has a specific role that helps keep the conversation focused and meaningful. Roles like discussion leader, summarizer, character analyst, theme tracker, passage picker, and connector give every student a chance to engage with the book in a different way. It’s a great way for them to work together, think more deeply about the story, and build strong reading and critical thinking skills.
American Heart Association Mission
Our Heart Challenge was a huge success this year! We crushed our $3,000 goal and raised $3,406. Which helps save over 68 lives!!!
Mrs. Kerkove’s class won the Classroom Challenge with the most students Registered.
Thank you all for your support!
Honoring Volunteer Mrs. Stapley
Honoring Volunteer Mrs. Stapley
AMC Volunteer, Mrs. Stapley was honored at the annual Champions for Children Event sponsored by MSEA. Each year 6-8 volunteers that have been nominated by teachers are recognized. This year Mrs. Stapley was nominated by Mrs. Yerbich for her ten years of service to American Charter's Running Club. Here are some excerpts from Mrs. Yerbich's speech at the event:
- Ten years ago I started a running club for our school, American Charter. I was fortunate that one of my student’s moms was a runner and offered to volunteer. Ten years later, and four Stapley children later, Mrs. Stapley is still volunteering by running with our students through our cross-country and track and field seasons.
- Without the aid of Mrs. Stapley, we couldn’t have kept all runners safe, Not only does Mrs. Stapley show-up her attendance record is beyond reproach.
- Her first year volunteering, she ran with her youngest child in a stroller. Now that child is moving on to middle school.
- Reflecting and doing the math I have concluded that Mrs. Stapley has impacted hundreds of American Charter students with her knowledge of the sport, her unwavering patience, and her genuine kindness.
- Mrs. Stapley has been with me from the beginning and I am not sure what the next running season is going to look like without you. I speak for hundreds of students, parents, staff, and myself when I say-thank you so much for lacing up and showing up.
- I will miss you Mrs. Stapley but we’ve had a terrific run.
Thank you for supporting American Charter, Mrs. Stapley; we appreciate you!!

Student Article
Candy Wrapper Activity with Mrs. Crum
While some students were off skiing, the rest got creative with a fun project in Mrs. Crum’s class that combined art and math. Each student picked a small candy wrapper and turned it into a giant, zoomed-in drawing on paper. It was a cool way to learn about proportions and scaling while letting students show their artistic side. Seventh-grade student, Preston Nevidomsky, chose a bright pink Bubble Yum wrapper. He carefully divided the wrapper into sections and redrew each part larger on a big sheet of paper. It took time and focus, but his finished project was super detailed—a colorful standout!
Preston enjoyed the project because it was a nice break from regular homework and allowed him to try something more hands-on. Even though it was a meticulous and detailed process, Preston focused on applying time and effort. The work was easy and he enjoyed it.
This was a fun and creative alternative for students who didn’t go on the ski trip. It shows that even something as small as a candy wrapper can turn into art with the right mix of math, creativity, and persistence.

Principal's Corner
Hello AMC Families,
Thank you for working with AMC Staff as we completed end of the year testing over a three week period. Wow, there is a lot of organizing, thought, and preparation that goes into different assessments at different grade levels. Your efforts to ensure student success is an essential part of the process and was much appreciated.
As we step into May, let's take a deep breath and welcome the end of the year learning and activities with gratitude!! While the end of the school year is a festive time and always a wonderful time to celebrate success, it's important to continue following school procedures so we can finish the year safe and strong!
As always, thank you for partnering with AMC as we 'Achieve Academic Excellence Together.'
