a message from Ms Parker...
Welcome back to the final term of the academic year!
Congratulations and well done to year 6 children who completed their SATs tests last half term. All of the children worked incredibly hard on their preparation for the assessments, and I am extremely proud of the resilience I witnessed and the dedication they showed to their learning.
As you all know, we had a very unexpected visit from Ofsted two days before the very last day of the Summer half term.
Although unexpected, the entire team and I were very excited to 'show off' our school community to our visitors.
Thank you to everyone for your support, during this period.
The final report will be made available to you within the next few weeks.
Whilst we recognise the benefits of the 'School Street' closures during pick up and drop off times on Bonneville Gardens, please be mindful of the impact this has on our local residents. Parking in No Parking Zones, or blocking drive ways or the entrance to the road, is not an alternative.
Please do not do this!
It is vital that we consider the wider environment and do what we can to enable access for all and keep everyone safe. We should not be enjoying the freedom of walking down Bonneville Gardens, whilst creating unsafe spaces elswhere.
Please note the dates of the many events scheduled for this term, it is a busy one! Including keeping track of the permission slips required for your child/ren to engage in school trips and activities.
Get Rid and Donate is coming to Bonneville on 21 June to collect at 10.30am.
Please leave your donations in secure bags under the shelter in the back playground.
See the poster with more information below.
Mr Connelly is currently on a period of leave. Please contact the school office if you need any support and your query will be re-directed to the appropriate staff member.
Keep safe and I will see you at the gate!
International Evening
Bonneville 'A slice of London'
Thank you to everyone who came along to our legendary International Evening event on Thursday 23rd May.
The sweet sounds of our children singing, the tropical tones of the steel pans, along with the souful beat of Mr Wrights music and the deliciously blended smells of our community foods, made for another spectacular evening.
International Evening really does combine the very best of our community, and I had an absolute ball dancing with the children, socialising with our famillies and tasting slices of what makes us special!
Thank you to Mr Levy for hosting, and everyone for their contributions to the event.
Local Author David Farr's Visit to Bonneville
On Thursday 6th June, David Farr, a famous local author attended an assembly, talking to the children about the process of writing, editing and publishing. He read passages from his book and the children had the opportunity to ask him questions.
Thank you to Ms Neate for organising the event.
Fun in the Forest Day
On Tuesday 21st May, we invited our famillies into our Forest School to engage in different activities throughout the day. A wide range of family members joined us to become Research Scientists, investigating minibeasts and their habitats and Gardeners, where everyone planted 2 sunflower seeds. 1 to take home and 1 to remain at school. We made wands and swords , created new bug houses for our favourite minibeast, whittled a stick, looked after the chickens and much more.
Children were proud to show their parents that they were "brave" when handling some of the creatures in the Forest, encouraging some reluctant adults to also try and hold a snail!
Summer Term Enterprise Week Monday 10th to Friday 14th June
Enterprise learning is a much valued element of our curriculum at Bonneville.
On Friday 14th June 2024 we shall be holding our Summer Term Enterprise Fair.
All year groups will be proposing their business ventures and requesting investment from Ms. Parker in ‘The Vault’.
Following a successful pitch, year groups will use their money to create and sell their own products, with all proceeds going to trips for the year group. Please come and join us at 3:00pm in the KS1 playground (weather permitting), for our ‘Summer Term Enterprise Fair’.
Ms. Parker will announce the year group who made the most profit in the July Buzz!
Don’t forget your spending money!
We look forward to seeing you there.

Curriculum Spotlight!
This month we shine a light on Music
Our music curriculum is based on a holistic approach, with the related skills of playing, singing, listening, improvising and composing music being introduced and revisited throughout the year and across year groups, culminating in deeper levels of musical understanding and a richer experiences for the children.
- In Years 3 and 4, Music is taught by specialist tutors. The children learning to play instruments as part of a whole class ensemble. In other Year groups, where possible, singing and music teaching is linked to Creative Curriculum topics.
- Children have opportunities to perform each term, either as a class during assemblies, or as soloists or ensembles during seasonal concerts. Teachers use singing to embed learning across the curriculum. Weekly singing assemblies also take place in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Each year group, and those children identified as excelling at Music, benefit from at least 1 music enrichment activity each academic year, lead by a professional musician or with an inspirational context.
- The school’s Upper and Lower choirs participate in the Lambeth Music Festival and other regional performances.
- Music is pivotal to how children learn across the Early Years, with adult led and child initiated music making taking place. The youngest members of our school community are welcomed into the Nursery for a weekly music session for babies, toddlers and their parents and carers
Homework
Please help support your child with their spellings by looking at the spelling rules, sounds and patterns in each word. Practicing spellings daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word.
In KS1, children will need to choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children will need to write a sentence for each word, using neat, joined handwriting.
This will give the children the opportunity to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context and allow them to practice their handwriting.
All spelling books must be given the Class Teacher every Wednesday. This will ensure that your teacher has enough time to get the new spellings stuck in. Children will be doing a weekly spelling test in the back of their homework books so you will be able to see how well they are doing.
FAB Update
FAB- Please get involved, more hands make light work!
FAB stands for Friends Association Bonneville.
Many, many parents are involved in enabling fundraising for our school. Thanks again to the FAB Office Team, for galvanising the community and keeping everyone updated through their wonderful Newsletters.
It is great to see new faces getting involved. A donation of 1 hour per term (that’s only 3 hours per year), of your time, is all that we ask. Whether it be class rep, planning/hosting an event or standing on a stall. Some parents very generously agree to host an event like our amazing wreath making workshop, or the gathering of donations for our incredible raffles. We always need more help and support. Every parent is a member of FAB. I ask that everyone gets involved.
Don't miss out on the next FAB event...

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential, is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.01am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase (see below)
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome...
3) You may raise your concerns with Ms Parker
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Ms Parker on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FAB but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
