May Days Are Busy Days
A special thank you to the HSA for their organization and fundraising this year. Through family participation in the HSA fundraisers, the field trips, and many other activities are being fully funded by the monies raised. Way to go Memorial Community!
This month also brings our Butterfly Celebration. Save the date of May 30 at 2 pm. We will parade, sing, and celebrate butterflies which continue to be a big part of Memorial School. From finding, growing and releasing in the fall to planting, caring for the gardens, and learning about insect life in the spring, we are becoming experts and we can't wait to share this excitement with our grown-ups. We hope you can join us.
As the weather becomes warmer please dress your child accordingly. Sunscreen should be applied at home. We do not apply sunscreen here at school, please do not send it with your student. If you have concerns please call Nurse Hess. Hats are welcome for recess and outside time.
Please keep in mind the gym is not air-conditioned.
Enjoy every fun day that May brings.
PLEASE BE SAFE!
We have a lot more walkers with the arrival of better weather.
Please remember:
- Cross in the cross walks with crossing guards
- Watch your speed
- Obey the one ways
- Watch your children
The safety of everyone is important. We appreciate you doing your part.

From the desk of Mrs. Thompson...
Welcome to Mrs. Thompson’s Counselor Corner for May
As we approach the last full month of school, I would like to thank you for your continued support of our SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) lessons. Throughout the year, the lessons have focused on the importance of valuing our friends and ourselves, kindness, and strategies on working through big feelings.
In May, some of the books that we will be reading will focus on the transition to summer. A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle is a wonderful story that focuses on change and excitement for new adventures. We will also be reading a Star Wars Book titled, The Galaxy Needs You, Cannonball by Sacha Cotter, And Then Comes Summer by Tom Brenner, Last Day Blues by Julie Danneberg, and I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
If interested, you can often find the books listed on YouTube as read alouds. My website also offers many great resources. As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
