Wildcat Weekly!
Dear Wildcats Community,
Today, we wrapped up the 2023-24 school year. All of us here at Walnut Street Elementary School would like to thank you sincerely for an outstanding school year. Each an every school year brings amazing successes and some challenges. This year was no different. We greatly respect and appreciate our open communication and the wonderful moments we shared.
Congratulations to our 5th grade students and their parents! What an amazing journey. This week there were many different activities that wrapped up their school year including the yearbook signing, bagel breakfast, and bubble ceremony. Best of luck to all of you in middle school! Our community partnership with Freddy's Steakburgers is so greatly appreciated...they graciously donated the ice cream for our chalk writing event.
Good luck to Mrs. Lisa Hankins on her retirement! Mrs. Hankins has been an amazing teacher and professional to Walnut Street for many years. She is kind, dedicated, and is an expert in what she does. She will be sorely missed!
Senior walkthroughs were Tuesday. This tradition continues to amaze. We saw so many seniors come back into the halls of Walnut Street to be happily greeted by students and staff alike. Thank you to Mr. Ed Keller, Principal of Toms River High School North, who joined us for this event. Good luck to the Class of 2024!

Important - Summer Educational Resources and Information
Summer Reading Flier and Available Resources
As we all know, summer is an important time to refresh and recharge. However, it is vitally important to avoid the 'summer slide'. Summer slide is a term used to describe student learning loss during the summer months. At Walnut Street, we want to give you as many resources and materials to avoid student learning loss. Students have access to digital learning platforms such as iReady and Boost Reading.
Setting student family goals to read books over the summer to promote year round literacy is just one way to have students retain reading growth. Math growth can be maintained by doing fun family things over the summer such as cooking, baking, playing various board games, and practicing math facts!
The Ocean County Library has an entire page dedicated to summer reading. Please click this link to their website. There are also incredible summer programs offered. Please take advantage!
