Oceanway Middle School Newsletter

There will be no school on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

Students should not bring backpacks to school starting Tuesday. Students may still bring lunch boxes if needed. Backpacks will be collected and stored at the beginning of the day on Tuesday.

All regular testing is complete and students who were absent are doing make up testing this week. The district tests count 20% of a students final grade. The Civics, Algebra, Geometry and Biology tests will count 30% of students' final grades. We hope to complete testing for everyone as soon as possible.

Students will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. on the last day of school, Friday, May 31. Buses will run at that time.

Parents and students will see final report cards in Focus starting June 13. If you need a printed copy, please email Ms. Whyte at mailto:whyteo@duvalschools.org. Please allow at least 24 hours before coming to pick up.

Many students had novels checked out to them through Language Arts classes. Please return the books as soon as possible to avoid a debt.

Ms. Corpening chose Ms. Horton! Ms. Corpening said Ms. Horton was chosen for BUC of the WEEK because she always goes above and beyond for her coworkers and students. She is an amazing teacher, Assistant Band Director, and leads the Black History Club. Ms. Corpening appreciates the care and support Ms. Horton has shown this school year. Congratulations Ms. Horton!

Children entering, attending, or transferring to the seventh grade in Florida schools must complete One Tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) shot. Shots can be obtained from the county Health Department or your doctor. Summer Orientation Dates are set for next fall.

8th grade: Tuesday, July 30- 9 a.m.-11 a.m.

7th grade: Tuesday, July 30-1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

6th grade Last Name A-L Wednesday, July 31- 9 a.m.-11 a.m.

6th grade Last Name M-Z Wednesday, July 31-1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Students will be able to walk their schedules, and get information on resources, clubs and athletics. Parents can learn about school policies and volunteer opportunities.

The office at Oceanway Middle will be open 8-4 Monday through Thursday starting June 3. Offices are closed Fridays throughout the summer. Have a great summer!
