Message From Principal Webb
Dear Longhorn families,
3 days and counting until summertime!
Wednesday, May 5th is our student's last day and is 1 hour early out at Longfellow Elementary for the 2023-24 school year and report cards will be coming home with students on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.
Congratulations to our 5th and 6th graders as we celebrated your graduation today.
We also had fun congratulating our City High Seniors on Thursday with a clap-out- it was so fun to see our past Longhorns!
On Monday morning we will have fun outdoor games with our Longfellow Leagues. If it rains we will reschedule to Tuesday. There will be a few water games in case you want to send your child with an extra set of clothes, however, no one should get really soaked. :)
Finally, on Wednesday we will celebrate our 5th and 6th grade kickball game in the morning and then parents are welcome to join the 5th and 6th grade clap out at 1:45 outside along the sidewalks if they wish!

Moving away over the summer?
Please be sure to let the office know if your family plans to move other the summer - whether that be far away or just to another attendance area in the district! Knowing in advance helps us with staffing and class lists preparation.

News from the Longfellow Library
All Longfellow Library books are due back for the end of the year. Please help your children to get their books back to Longfellow. At this time we still have 134 books outstanding. If we were to value each of these books at $10 (a conservative estimate) that would be $1340! Yikes! Congratulations to Mrs. Donohue's class for being the first to get all their books in, and to Ms. Frees' class for being the second! GREAT WORK, students!
A great way to avoid the "summer slump" (when kids' reading and learning decrease over the summer) is to encourage your child to read every day! The Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty Public Libraries (and all public libraries everywhere) have Summer Reading Programs all summer long. All ICCSD students can check out books using their student AIM cards at the libraries, online, or from the Bookmobile. Details about the ICPL program can be found here. Adults can sign up too! Participants receive prizes for completing the program. There are also MANY activities all summer long to keep your kids busy and off the dreaded all-day screens! Happy reading!
Yearbooks
We have a few extra yearbooks in the office! If your student did not order one and still wants one, please have them bring $10 to the office this week, and we will get them one!
Rent the Rock!
The purpose of the Celebration Rock is to promote school spirit at Longfellow Elementary School. Parents, caregivers, students & staff have the opportunity to “Rent the Rock” to recognize a student’s birthday, show school spirit, thank or recognize a teacher or staff member, mark congratulatory events, etc. It is a great way to spread positive messages and increase excitement in our community! 100% of the funds raised through the Celebration Rock will be used by the school or PTA for events and for school improvement for our amazing students!
