Hello Norris Families!

Week 2 of the Fact Family Challenge

We’re excited to continue our Math Facts Challenge throughout February! This challenge helps students strengthen their number recognition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills—building confidence and success in math.

At Norris, we’re combining fun school-wide activities with an engaging family challenge! Each family received a deck of playing cards to use for simple and exciting math games at home. Every week, we’ll send home fresh game ideas to keep learning fun and interactive. These are coming home on pink paper in Friday Folders.

Don't forget to track your family’s math practice on the attached calendar! You can log any day in February that you spend practicing math together. On the back of the calendar, you'll find plenty of easy ways to build math skills through everyday activities.

Return your completed calendar by Wednesday, March 5th, and your child will earn a prize from the office along with a special shout-out on the morning announcements! Keep up the great work!

Thank you to all who have already sent photos of your family practicing math home, students are loving to see their pictures on our lobby TV! Keep them coming!

Check out the Card Games for Ways to Practice Math Facts with a Deck of Cards. All families were sent home a deck of cards to play these math related games with!

We are excited to invite parent volunteers to help with our Valentine's Day Parties on Wednesday, February 12th, from 1:15-2:15 PM.

If you would like to volunteer, please sign up with your child's classroom teacher. We kindly ask that younger siblings do not attend the party, and we will be limiting volunteers to 3-5 parents per classroom. Only those who are volunteering will be able to attend.

Volunteer duties may include distributing snacks, running games, or assisting with a Valentine's Day craft with the students. If you are not able to volunteer, many classrooms would appreciate donations for classroom party supplies. Your involvement makes a difference in our school community, and we appreciate your willingness to help!

• Dinesh has been the most amazing mentor these past two weeks helping me with my transition into Norris as a staff member. She is so kind and thoughtful on such a consistent basis and I am so incredibly thankful for her!

• Dinesh is a rock star literacy para! She knows her students so well, and provides solid instruction that meets their needs. She is a huge asset to us at Norris!

• Julie G is an amazing person to have at Norris. She is willing to help out any way that is possible.

• Julie helps with ALL the things and always has the answer to any question. We would be lost without her!

• Julie does so much! She is always willing to help and brainstorm with me! She is always willing to help with anything that is needed in Norris. Her being staff of the month is long overdue! She is the superhero of Norris!

If you have an incoming kindergartener or new student entering Millard Public Schools for the 2025-26 school year, please register your student beginning February 1, 2025 at www.mpsomaha.org. By completing your child's registration as soon as possible you help us place students sooner and communicate with your family in a timely way. Please note, the new student registration window is for NEW STUDENTS ONLY! Existing student updates will occur between June 9 and July 31, 2025.

Each week, all students at Norris will have a lesson practicing a social skill. These weekly lessons are called our ROAR Skills of the Week! ROAR skills are practiced in the classroom during a Morning Meeting. All staff members are on the lookout through the week for students to be practicing the weekly skill. Students who demonstrate the skill of the week may earn a ROAR ticket and be entered into a weekly grade level drawing.

Please take some time each week to review the ROAR Skill of the Week with your child!

All students are practicing the calming strategy of "Hand Over Heart" during the month of February! Practice this at home when your child is in need of a tool to help them calm down!

National Library Lovers' Month is in February, and it's dedicated to people who love their libraries for all they do for them.

How to Celebrate:

• Read: Read a book, write a book, or share a book with a friend or family member

• Explore: Check out new books, local author works, or other notable titles

• Connect: Attend library programs, such as book clubs, movie nights, or interactive stations

• Share: Post about your favorite books or library services on social media, using the hashtag #NationalLibraryLoversDay

• Libraries play a vital role in people's lives, providing resources for entertainment, teaching, and motivation
• Library Lovers' Month is a time to celebrate the people who are passionate about libraries
