Arrival and Dismissal Procedures🚗
As we start the new school year we have some updates to parent and pick up. This will help with traffic flow and having students stay in class longer to receive instruction from their teacher.
Student Car Drop off:
Please stay in your car until the supervising adults opens the car door to release students from cars in the NEW drop off area. There will be signs to help remind. This is for student and staff safety. Staff will walk out to release students from cars at 9:25am. Drop off is from 9:25am-9:35am.If you are parent pick up or drop off this means you are in your car in the parent pick up and drop off line.
- Students who arrive at or after 9:35 will have to have a parent come into the office to sign them in. *Please note that due to safety concerns, parents may not drop off late students to enter the building unsupervised. Parents must park, come into the office, and sign the student in with the time and reason for the tardy.
Student Car Pick up:
Please stay in your car until you reach the pick up location that will be clearly marked with signs and cones. Your child will be waiting for you. Students will be directed by an adult to stand at a specific area for your car. Dismissal is at 4:05. You need to stay in your car for pick-up to allow traffic flow an school safety.
We will have tags for car windows and will be calling names quicker using our numbering system. The goal is to have your child waiting for you when you pull up to the numbered gate area. If you still dont have a card please reach out the school and email Lbbi Shawley at eshawley@franklinpierceschools.org
Thanks for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this change.
Walker student pick up: Adults' picking up students to walk with them are asked to wait in the designed area on the map .If you are out of your car and wanting to pick up your child, that is considered a walker and will be in a separate location on the map.

Recess Updates and Changes
Last week and upcoming week, we held a “Recess Rodeo” here at Elmhurst. The goal of this rodeo was to review game rules and expectations at recess time, as well as ensure safe, supervised areas of play. The idea is that we will do this a few times throughout the school year to give students tools and knowledge around game rules, which helps build confidence and inclusive play.
Unstructured and cooperative play is, and will always be, a major part of recess; we are making sure that there are safe spaces (and adequate supervision) for imaginative play throughout the playground and field areas. We asked students to use walking feet on the blacktop between the game areas only; running is happily encouraged in all other recess areas.
Recess is an extension of the classroom; we want to meet social-emotional needs, as well as encourage engagement and choice in all aspects of learning. Students can always choose what they would like to do at recess.
Areas of focus for our recess rodeo included some familiar and some new options:
3-line basketball
3-line soccer
Four Square
Playshed
Big Toy
Tetherball
Swings
Striker Ball
Frisbee
Walk/Run track area
Dance party/chalk/hula hoop/jump rope
Rotating Game of the Week on either field (weather permitting)
This helps promote community and build a sense of belonging for all of our students, which is key to academic success and social-emotional well being. Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our Elmhurst Eagles.
