McKinley Weekly Update
Update 26: Week of March 4th
Weekly Highlights
Ceramics
All kinder through 5th grade classes have now been to their first rotation of ceramics with Ms. Kristina!! Kinder has been working on clownfish inspired by their IB unit focusing on the “balance between living things that impacts survival.” We learned about the symbiotic relationship between clownfish and sea anemones and played with clay before creating our own clownfish! We can’t wait to glaze them next class!
Fifth Grade Ceramics
Fifth grade students discussed the different roles and components of the ceramics economy as part of the IB unit “How We Organize Ourselves.” We talked about how artists sell their work and learned about Syd Carpenter, a famous contemporary Black ceramic artist, who creates works based on the idea of being a steward of the land on which you live. Students created bowls inspired by Carpenter’s work, decorating them with elements important to the places they’ve lived.
Fourth Grade Ceramics
4th grade students studied pottery of the Kumeyaay and worked on creating similar bowls.

Your participation is voluntary and anonymous. The questions pertain only to your child’s/children’s school, and the results are used to help make improvements at both the school and district level.
Please click the link below to take the survey by Friday, March 29th, 2024. If you have more that one child at McKinley, please take the survey only once, and answer the questions with your oldest child in mind.
