7th Grade Outdoor Education Trip
September 12-14th 7th Grade Outdoor Education Residential Field Trip in Taylorsville
7th Graders spent three days at Taylorsville gaining a hands-on learning experience focusing on the unique and wonderful wildlife and landscapes that the Indian Valley has to offer. The 3-day immersion included several hikes to view the effect that wildfires have had on our region, learning to detect and decipher animal tracks, learning about the unique trees and plants the Indian Valley contains and building analog beaver dams! 7th graders completed animal skits played wildlife themed games and had campfires each evening. We were lucky enough to have members of the Maidu community – including an Elder - to come and talk with us on land management and about their unique and fascinating culture and heritage. We had beautiful clear nights which allowed the 7th graders to learn a little astronomy and cultural stories regarding the stars and their meanings.
