TJH Update #8
September 18, 2024
Note from Mrs. Haworth
Good afternoon,
Today, students watched a short video reviewing actions to take during a lockdown or school intruder. Following the video, we performed a lockdown drill. We take school safety very seriously and these drills help us to prepare for any emergency.
Friday is a student holiday so I hope all students enjoy their 3 day weekend!
On Monday, September 23rd, we will begin charging $1 for the temporary IDs if students do not have their student ID on them. Please remind your students the importance of having their student ID everyday. The flyer below has details about the district's updated process for collecting fees for student IDs.
Have a great evening,
Tara Haworth

Close-Up Trip
Dear Titan Families,
The Close-Up Washington, D.C program is exclusive to only 7th graders. Close-Up is a week-long summer trip (Monday, May 26, 2025- Friday May 30, 2025) that allows students to explore the nation’s capital city before going to 8th grade!
Close-Up has created a personalized trip for Katy ISD students that includes 2 nights in Washington, D.C and 2 nights in Philadelphia (site of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell). Additional spots this year will include Williamsburg, Alexandria, Mt. Vernon (George Washington’s estate), and Gettysburg (site of the turning point of the Civil War).
Total cost is $2065 (all-inclusive outside of souvenirs, snacks, and airline baggage fees). Students will have 24/7 supervision to ensure safety. First deposit is due November 1, 2024, so time is limited- don’t delay! You may reach out to Ms. Ventura (elizabethvventura@katyisd.org) for more information or to sign up!

College and Career Night
Katy ISD and The Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) will host College & Career Night on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Leonard E. Merrell Center, 6301 S. Stadium Lane. College & Career Night is designed for high school students to explore college and career possibilities by meeting and engaging with representatives, gathering scholarship information, and discovering financial aid opportunities.
Our families will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of college and career paths students can take after graduation. We will have over 200 representatives from community colleges, universities, institutes, military academies, and many more to showcase their programs. Share the College and Career Night Flyer with your campus and community.
For more information, please contact Latrice Patton at Latricespatton@katyisd.org or 281-396-2862.

JH Health TEKS and Parent Opt-In Consent
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and Senate Bill 9, junior high students will receive instruction on the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence prevention.
Under Texas statute, parents/guardians must choose to “opt-in” for their student to participate in the lessons that address the topics of abuse and violence prevention.
On September 2, 2024, parents/guardians will receive information via email on how to view associated lessons and record their decision for student “opt-in” of these lessons.
Below are the windows for both the parent opt-in and when lessons will be taught:
Parent Opt-In Window: September 2nd – September 30th

Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can:
• Sign up as a campus volunteer by completing the volunteer recruitment form provided by your campus organization(s) or contact your campus volunteer coordinator.
• Track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer
• The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off-campus volunteer hours.

Bus Info and SMART tag
Parents and schools will only need to know the Route ID (or likely just called "route") because the bus number will no longer matter.
Car Rider Drop Off and Pick-Up

At 8:30 AM, the front doors will open. Students who would like to eat breakfast go to the cafeteria. Students may walk to sit outside their first period class once the doors open. Students are to have their IDs on and visible at all times.
