Student-Led Conferences March 2025
Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 6th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30.
This conference will be a true Celebration of Learning and look a little different than March conferences have looked in the past. During this period, students will review their goals with you, highlight work, and showcase what they have achieved since October. There will be 4-6 viewing stations set up in each classroom. Teachers will transition between groups during this celebration and assist as needed. Typically this will take about 10-15 minutes; however, families are welcome to come in anytime during conferences.
Please know our special education staff will be available for walk-ins during the entire day. Specials teachers will be rotating between assigned buildings; however, if you’d like to speak to someone specifically just let us know in the main office and we will have them follow up with you.
We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning with you.
Change Wars
Another successful round of Change Wars has finished at Emerson. Our school raised over $500 to donate to the American Heart Association with all of those pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters that students and families donated to the classroom containers last week.
The final results...
Ms. Feldman's Young 5s classroom had the heaviest jug and will be rewarded with extra PE time!
The second heaviest was Mr. DiCerbo's 4th grade class, and third heaviest was Mrs. Thompson's 3rd grade class. Those two classes will be rewarded with extra recess with their teacher.
Emerson Bulldogs, thank you once again for your generosity!!
March is Reading Month - Coming Soon!
The Benefits of Reading for Children
Reading is one of the best habits children can develop, offering countless benefits that shape their minds and futures. When children read regularly, they improve their vocabulary, which helps them express themselves more clearly and confidently. It also boosts their imagination, allowing them to explore new worlds, ideas, and cultures, all from the comfort of their own home.
Beyond the fun and creativity, reading improves concentration and focus. Kids who read are more likely to develop critical thinking skills, learning to analyze information and solve problems. Reading also helps in school, as children who read often perform better in subjects like math and science because they can follow instructions and grasp complex concepts with ease.
Moreover, reading provides children with a sense of relaxation, offering them a quiet space to unwind and de-stress after a busy day. Whether it's a fairy tale or an adventure story, reading sparks curiosity and opens doors to lifelong learning.
In short, reading is not only fun but also essential for children's development. Encouraging kids to read early on can set them on a path toward a successful, confident future.
Happy Dental Health Month!
In our Young 5s classroom, our dramatic play area has been transformed into a Dentist Office, where we’re diving into a world of learning across reading, writing, math, social studies, and social skills! As we play, we’re not only having fun, but also developing important social and emotional skills. Through interactions with friends, we practice oral language while taking turns, waiting in line, sharing, and much more. In reading and writing, we’ll be filling out patient forms, completing dentist charts, labeling parts of the tooth, taking phone messages, and writing receipts. In math, we’ll count money and practice writing numbers with prices. We’ll also explore science by learning about our teeth and how to keep them healthy. It’s an exciting month of hands-on learning and growth!
Career Fair Features Graphic Design
6th Graders had an opportunity to see the possibilities of graphic design at this past week’s Career Fair. These play dollars were created at Fraser High School. The play currency took the opportunity to replace the nationally-renowned faces of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson with Fraser’s famous, more beautiful faces of Mrs. Beavnier, Mr. McCoy, Mr. Argiri, Dr. Wozniak, and Mr. Brasure.
Graphic designers from Fraser High School dress up Fraser currency.
Black History Month Quilt
Mrs. Pashby's 5th graders have been researching a number of different African American leaders this month. Each student selected someone who was relatively unknown to them, and used library books, EPIC, and Destiny to find basic information and interesting facts about those people. Then, that information was put onto a quilt square with a caricature of that person and decorated. All said and done, our quilt will include musicians, singers, athletes, explorers, civil rights leaders, astronauts, political figures, and entrepreneurs. Stop by and take a look during Spring Conferences!
Renewed Recycling Efforts
Custodian Greg Dugan reports our paper recycling bin has recycled over 125 pounds of paper! It’s a great start for a renewed program.
Pawsome Students!
Kennedy Jones
Kennedy is a great asset to have on my library team. She is always on top of her job! Kennedy always shows up with a “good morning” and leaves with “have a good day”. She is kind, thoughtful, and very responsible. Thank you Kennedy for your Pawsome attitude.
Mrs. Barozzini - Media Technology Assistant
Hunter Tonelli
Hunter is a 5th grade band student who plays the alto saxophone. Hunter consistently shows up prepared for class, puts forth his best effort, and sticks around after class ends to help clean up. He is a rockstar and doing stellar work in our band class!

Canvas
CANVAS LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!
All students, grades Young 5s-12 use Canvas, a learning management system. Classroom teachers use Canvas to provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments for students, as well as parent communication.
Parents are encouraged to set up a parent/observer account to stay abreast of student learning. Canvas will allow parents to:
- Contact their child’s teacher
- View grades, due dates, and events
- See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
- Support an absent student
- View classroom and building announcements
