Family Engagement
When schools, families and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.
Volunteers
Thank you to our PTO, Room Parents, School Volunteers, Mentors, Business Partners, and Donors!
I want to send out a huge THANK YOU out to the many volunteers that come help out at BPS. The positive impact you have in our school is priceless. Thank you for helping us make a better future for our children!
Battlefield Primary has many opportunities for parents and families to be involved at school. Our students thrive when parents make the time to engage with the teachers and staff. Families, students, teachers, staff, and local community should be in this together to make our school the best it can be. It cannot be done with out that cooperation and we need all families to be involved. The mission is to find more ways for families to engage with BPS in ways that fit the diverse needs of each family. Please reach out to Amber Barnes to find out what you can do to support our students!
GA Standards of Excellence
GA Standards of Excellence: For Parents
Looking for ideas and strategies to share with your own children or other parents? GeorgiaStandards.Org (GSO) is here to help!
GeorgiaStandards.Org allows parents easy access to information about the state’s standards. This web site also offers a variety of free resources to help you motivate and support your child’s curriculum at home while reinforcing the standards your child is working on in the classroom.
Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE)
On February 19, 2015, the State Board of Education (SBOE) voted to rename the ELA and Mathematics standards to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). The recently revised and SBOE approved ELA and Mathematics standards for implementation beginning for the 2015-2016 school year will be called the ELA and Mathematics Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).
Georgia Performance Standards
The Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) give clear guidelines for teaching the subjects, testing what students are learning, and the work students are doing. They explain the level of work (rigor) that allows a teacher to know "how good is good enough."
Frameworks
Frameworks are the teaching and learning activities that help promote student success as it relates to the Georgia Performance Standards. They may include tasks (activities), rubrics (guides used to score lessons), and resources for the units.
Testing Resources
Testing Resources are available to help parents understand and students get ready for standardized tests. Choose to view explanations of the different assessment programs administered at the various grade levels as well as resources to help your students prepare. For general assessment program information, including currently scheduled test administration dates, you may also visit the Testing/Assessment Division website.
The Lexile Framework for Reading
The Lexile® Framework is an educational tool that links text complexity and readers’ ability on a common scale metric known as the Lexile. A student receives a Lexile reader measure as a score from a reading test; the Lexile describes the student’s reading ability. Books and other texts also have a Lexile measure associated with them, and this Lexile describes the book's reading demand or difficulty. When used together, these measures can help match a reader with reading material that is at an appropriate difficulty level, or help give an idea of how well a reader will comprehend a text.
In Georgia students will receive a Lexile measure when they receive a scale score on the Georgia Milestones End of Grade or End of Course English Language Arts (ELA) assessment. This Lexile is based on the reading portion of the ELA test.
Lexile information can be a resource for parents and educators that focuses on improving reading skills and increasing adolescent literacy. A student’s Lexile measure can be used to monitor his or her growth in reading ability over time.
Special Education Services and Supports
The Divisions of Special Education Services and Supports offer resources to parents of students with disabilities. You will find a guide to your rights and responsibilities, information about dispute resolution, and special education legal aid providers as well as links to major family organizations that can provide additional support.
