Tēnā koutou,


Last Thursday we were so lucky to have the Flying High Project visit our school. The year 5 & 6 Students have been working on The Flying High Project and developing an understanding of Mātauranga Māori based on the thought that ‘’In order to know where you’re going, you need to know where you’ve come from’’. They have been working on finding practical and innovative sustainability solutions for themselves, their communities and the environment. The programme’s unique use of a hot air balloon gives kids a bird's eye view of their surroundings and a broader perspective, like the Kāhu, (harrier hawk), a central figure in the education programme. Our year 5 & 6 students had the opportunity to go up on a tethered flight in a hot air balloon.


Today we have ‘Wood is Good’, a log and forestry programme teaching us about forests in our community, what a forester does, where the logs go, what is made from wood, and how we can be safe around trucks on the road. This ties in with our Te Taiao programme of learning within the environment that surrounds us.


And then on Friday, we continue with our learning within our environment with our trip to Rarangi where we are going to explore the forests, create structures on the beach and collect resources to use back at school. The weather looks great for this trip and we are looking forward to it. If you would like to join us, we would love to see you.



Next Monday, we are off on another adventure, this time to the amazing new town library! A notice has come home about this as well as a form for the children to apply for a library membership card. We will leave school at 11 am and be back around 1 pm. If you are able to support us with transport or just want to come along, please come and see Cara in the office for more information.


You may be aware there are currently negotiations between the Ministry of Education and NZEI teachers union around pay and conditions. If insufficient progress is made through this process, strike action might take place on Wednesday 31 May. If strike action goes ahead, it is likely we will have insufficient staff available and we may be forced to close school for the day. Please mark this in your calendar and make the necessary arrangements for the care of your children. We have our fingers crossed it won't come to that. This is just to give you as much notice as we can.

Uniform Orders


Orders will be sent to our supplier at the beginning of each month.

KiwiCan 2023

This year we have Aliyah and Saxon returning as our leaders, and our sessions are on Friday mornings.

Kiwi Can themes will follow in this order over the year:


Term 1 = Respect / Manaakitanga
Term 2 = Resilience / Taikaha
Term 3 = Positive Relationships / Whakawhanaungatanga
Term 4 = Integrity / Pono

Taekwon-Do

Legion Taekwon-Do is a dynamic martial art, and it is also an exciting sport suitable for all ages and abilities. Classes are for everyone from beginners to advanced levels.

Focused mind, disciplined body and pure spirit through community participation is our motto. Keeping this in mind, we encourage individual growth through a family feel atmosphere whilst practicing Taekwon-Do techniques.

Fees will be free to any Spring Creek School students and to the Spring Creek community. Classes will be Monday 3:15 - 4:15 pm in the Spring Creek Hall from this term. Families need to arrange for their children to go to the hall after school.

Stella

'Stella' is a stage production with a live orchestra and band, supported by a team of Marlborough sci-fi filmmakers.

It follows the adventures of Stella - a bold space explorer who finds herself lost in space after something goes terribly wrong. As part of her adventures, she makes new musical friends who hopefully will help her get home.

Featuring the music of:
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Holst's Mars and Jupiter
- Bach
- Star Wars
- The Greatest Showman
- and many more

By local kids, for local kids and their families of all ages. A special family performances of our Schools' concerts.
