MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This week, the District celebrated its first ever No Place for Hate Day. Over the past two years, we have worked to root out hate, bias and bullying through the No Place for Hate program, and this celebration was a wonderful way to recognize all the hard work throughout the District to make the program a success. Thank you to everyone who wore their No Place for Hate shirts, walked to school with their children, and supported us as we have made the District a more inclusive place to learn.
As graduation approaches, students are also being recognized for their accomplishments with scholarships and awards. Two students, Britaney Sinclair from Mount Vernon High School and Demaris Ferrer from Mount Vernon STEAM Academy, received scholarships at the Carroll F. Johnson Scholastic Achievement Dinner. They are outstanding students who have accomplished great things academically to earn these awards, and they deserve this recognition. Good luck finishing out the year strong and continuing your education!
Grimes School eighth grade students have completed their Civic Readiness Project, a community cookbook, recently. This is commendable work that serves the purpose of supporting the community and teaching people about eating healthy and sustainably. This great work by our students is a fantastic way to show their support of the community, while diligently researching and developing a comprehensive and insightful cookbook.
Tomorrow, the District will hold the Super Health and Wellness Block Party. Please join us for a fun day in the sun as we promote positive habits and share resources with the community to support a healthy lifestyle. Click here to register!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
