Minidoka Jr. High Parent Newsletter

Message from the Principal
We have welcomed 18 new students into our school this semester! We are excited to get to know each of these students and their families.
Idaho State (ISAT) testing will begin at MJH on March 10. These tests are extremely important as they can potentially assist a student in recovering missing credits. Encourage your child to be rested, on time, in attendance, and to give these assessments their very best effort! Review the attached MJH Grading Policy.
Another important event coming up is parent teacher conferences on March 13-14. Our team expects 100% participation in these conferences. We can be as flexible as you need: in-person (best option) conferences on the 13th and 14th, phone or video conferences, or one week before and after the scheduled conferences allows all families to have opportunities to communicate with teachers. This conference is crucial for our 8th graders in particular as we will be having conversations about advancement to high school.
Pay close attention to your child's attendance. This is the time of year that truancy catches up with students.
It is a pleasure working with our students and families!

Mr. Bell
"In 6th grade, students are learning all about the origins and traditions of the Abrahamic religions by conducting their own inquiry. We've had great conversations about different cultures and faiths, and how all of these religions got started!
In 7th grade, students are in the middle of their inquiry, finding out how power was consolidated in ancient and medieval Japan. In addition, we looked at the culture and artistry of the samurai!
In 8th grade, we've been looking at the three main perspectives during Reconstruction: Reconciliationist, White Supremacist, and Emancipationist. This will serve to give students the full picture of the context of America at that point in history!
Mr. Jarvis
8th Grade have been learning about sound, and this week experimented with the energy created by sounds with different Frequencies and Amplitudes.
Mr. Bruns
In Math class, 55% of 6th graders are passing with a 60% or higher.
50% of the 7th graders are passing.
80% of the 8th graders are passing.
Good job 8th graders!!!
If a student is not passing math, the two most common reasons are that they have either not completed or passed the first End of Unit Assessment or they have missing assignments. Consult PowerSchool often to see what your child needs to do, and please have them visit with Mr. Bruns if they are not passing.
Mrs. Bruns
