Weekly Update for Meadows
8/19/22
We had another positive week at Madison Meadows! Most of our students took two different national benchmark assessments. On Tuesday, students took the NWEA MAP reading test and on Friday, they took the NWEA MAP math test. Teachers are going to be looking at student data during next week’s TCT meeting to start generating plans to support student learning and growth.

Please take 5 minutes to read through the information below. Our newsletter is a great resource for staying on top of what’s happening at Meadows!
Parent Drop-off and Pick-up
Did you know over 60% of our students are open enrolled? This means we have some extra traffic on our hands and we need to be patient and mindful.
Please follow the protocols below to ensure we can safely get kids to and from school!
If you use the 3rd Avenue drive-through lane:
Create two lanes (and hug the curbs) so we can increase the number of cars in the lane and limit traffic on 3rd Avenue.
Please do not block our neighbors’ driveways while you are waiting in line
Please do not stop to pick up your child if there is a large gap in front of you… please continue to move forward so you don’t hold up traffic (your child can walk up toward the front of the line to meet you)
If you are choosing to park in our 3rd Avenue lot, please stay in your car and let your child know where to look for you. When extra people are out and about, traffic increases.
If you prefer to pick up off of Central, please use the Celebrations Church parking lot and do not drop off on McLellan, on Ocotillo, or on 2nd Ave.
Mind your speed and be sure to look for walkers and bike riders!
Picture day was amazing!
If you have not already ordered school pictures there is still time.
The most efficient and cost-friendly way to order is to visit mydorian.com, search for Madison Meadows, click the green Order button that corresponds with your school picture day and place your order. This option is available for up to four (4) days after picture day.
Once all of the images have been processed. Any student that has not ordered will receive an email with a unique access code and instructions to preview their image and place an order. All orders placed using the unique access code will be shipped directly to the student’s home.
Did you miss picture day or want to retake your picture?
Retakes will be on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. A student wishing to have their picture retaken should bring their original package back to school and return it to the photographer on retake picture day.
Digital downloads are delivered based on how you ordered.
If you ordered an image download online, you will receive an email with access to your image once it is ready. If you ordered with an envelope, you will receive your download instructions when packages are distributed at the school.
PBIS
You may start hearing your student talking about RAMS expectations and points they are able to earn by following those expectations. This is all a part of our Positive Behaviors Interventions & Supports program to identify and reward positive behaviors… when our students are Respectful, Accountable, Mindful and Safe.
Students earn points that can be spent in classroom stores to ‘purchase’ privileges such as preferred seating (on a bean bag chair or near a friend) or an item such as a water bottle sticker or a jolly rancher.
Take some time at the dinner table or in the car (when you have a captive audience) to ask your student how they are demonstrating our RAMS expectations at school.
Dress Code
Dress code. It’s one of the trickiest things that we try to manage and we are hoping for support from parents because while you manage your student, we have to manage over 800 kids. Here are the guidelines we are working to enforce and would appreciate you doing so before your student leaves for school:
- Clothing should cover undergarments (bras and boxers) at all times and shall not expose cleavage, abdomen, private areas, or buttocks.
- Clothing or accessories that advocate alcohol, drugs, obscenity, sex, or tobacco are prohibited. Clothing or accessories that display speech or language that is offensive or inappropriate to the limited forum of the public school environment are prohibited
- Shoes should be worn at all times. They should ensure that students are able to walk to class safely and participate in all classes. Slippers are not permitted.
- We do allow hats; however, hats must be worn alone, and can not have a hood or another head covering over them. Hats must meet the criteria of appropriateness (see 2nd bullet point). Teachers reserve the right to ask students to remove hats during class time.
We have reviewed the dress code with all students and are working to reinforce it consistently. We appreciate your support on this.
HAWK light
The District, in collaboration with the City of Phoenix and APS, has been working together for the past several years to have a HAWK light installed at the crosswalk at 3rd Avenue and Glendale. We are happy to report that the HAWK light became operational this week!
The HAWK offers increased visibility to alert drivers of our students who cross the street and provides consistency due to the difficulty of hiring crossing guards.
We have had staff members working with our students who cross at that location to ensure they understand and practice safe protocols for crossing at a HAWK light, but will be discontinuing supervision next week. If you are interested in providing supervision to that crosswalk and wish to volunteer to provide support, please sign up by following the link below.
