Safety update
In light of the tragic school shooting in Georgia this week, we wanted to reshare some information about our safety plans.
Safety preparedness: Safety is our top priority for all students and staff in our schools. We make every effort to be prepared for every possible type of emergency by regularly conducting safety drills and collaborating with our school resource officers and the Upper Arlington Police Division. Collaboration with families and local safety officials are critically important, and we are grateful for the strong partnerships in place in our community. You can learn more about our safety preparedness and prevention efforts at www.uaschools.org/safety.
Reporting concerns: We also reinforce with all students and staff members the importance of reporting any suspicious or concerning activity. We encourage all students, staff members and family members to share their concerns either by phone or email. Students and family members can also file a report through our STAY SAFE, SPEAK UP! reporting system. In addition to the link in this email, you can also find the SPEAK UP! system linked to our website and available in ClassLink on all student iPads. Reports filed through this system can be made anonymously. If your safety concern requires immediate attention from law enforcement, please call 911.
Literacy Night
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - GREENSVIEW CAFETERIA - 6:30 - 1:30Pm
Parents of K - 5th graders are invited to learn about literacy instruction in UA and find ways to support your child at home
The Scholastic book fair
Dear Greensview Families,
The Scholastic book fair will be visiting our school between September 19-24.
BOOK FAIR PREVIEW Your child’s class will visit the library’s book fair to preview the books on either Thurs, Sept 19 or Fri, Sept 20. They will create a wish list of books they would like to purchase. The lists will be sent home and will include the title and price of each book (including tax). Please note: Scholastic requires us to collect tax. The tax rate is 7.5%.
PAYMENTS Books can be purchased with cash, a check made out to Greensview PTO, credit card and eWallet. eWallet is a digital payment account for purchases at the book fair. Instead of sending cash or a check with your child, parents can upload funds to an eWallet. Any left over funds can be saved for future fairs. Scan the QR code below to visit the school’s book fair home page to set up an eWallet. Tip: Not sure how much money to add to your child’s eWallet? Check the total on your child’s wishlist!
SHOPPING Books can be purchased in multiple ways:
STUDENTS can shop the book fair during their class’s buying time on one of these days: Fri, Sept 20 & Mon, Sept 23 & Tues, Sept 24 (your child’s wish list will indicate their class’s buying day).
FAMILIES can shop together at GREENSVIEW’S FALL FAMILY FUN NIGHT on Fri, Sept 20 from 4:00-7:00pm
Tip: Shop early on Fri, Sept 20 at Fall Family Fun Night because many items will sell out and cannot be restocked.
TEACHER WISH LISTS Consider purchasing a book for your child’s teacher to build their classroom libraries. Teachers will create wish lists of books they’d like for their classroom. Look for the display when you visit the book fair.
THANK YOU The book fair is a fundraiser for Greensview’s library. The generated funds will be used to purchase books for the school library that serves all students grades K-5. Many thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Jill Merkle
Teacher Librarian
Panorama Survey for all students will be happening during the 9/16-9/27 window

NEW: iPad Parent Control Information
The UACS Technology Department provides 2 ways for caregivers to manage screen time, review web history, and manage apps and internet access after school hours. The typical built-in Apple ScreenTime and Parental controls do not work because the district manages iPads for school use at a district level - the typical consumer-level settings are not available. Caregivers can review web activity and disable internet access through the Lightspeed Relay Parent Portal. Additionally, caregivers can control app access and set rules through the JAMF Parent app. Questions may be directed to FamilyTechHelp@uaschools.org.

Seeking Sponsors for the 2024 Walk for Greensview
The Walk for Greensview will occur on Friday, October 4th, 2024, during lunch recess. The PTO is seeking sponsors to cover event costs.
Sponsors will receive:
· Two event shirts
· Their business logo printed on event shirts given to ALL Greensview students and staff
· Social media recognition through Greenview PTO platforms and communication
· Their business logo is printed on Walk for Greensview materials
We offer two different sponsor levels:
Signature Sponsor at $500 (logos will be printed in larger print, and there is individualized recognition through PTO social media platforms)
General Sponsor at $250
While it is a FUNDraiser we always focus on it being a FUN raiser for the kids. Students collect funds the previous weeks, and we celebrate together on the day of the walk with matching shirts, music, physical activity, and amazing energy that builds the Greensview community.
Those with interest, please email co-chairs Melissa Gorsline (lissarue@hotmail.com) and Gina Gruebmeyer (gruebmeyer16@gmail.com) by September 1st. Shortly after this date, print materials with sponsor logos will be finalized.
Physical Education
We have two Physical Education teachers at Greensiview, Erin Campbell and Julie Myers. Students are off to a great start this year, and we wanted to share a few things with you to help your child be prepared to participate in P.E. class.
-Students should wear appropriate athletic shoes on PE days. Please, NO sandals, flip flops, crocs, or boots.
-Students should wear appropriate clothing on PE days. Clothes should be appropriate for the weather, as we often go outside, and should be safe and comfortable for a variety of physical activities. Please, no long dresses, and if a dress is worn, shorts underneath is a plus.
-If your child is unable to participate in class, please send an email or send a note to their PE teacher. You can reach Mrs.Campbell at ebcampbell@uaschools.org and Mrs. Myers at jcmyers@uaschools.org.
Transportation
Students may not ride with friends on our district buses. Only students registered as bus riders are permitted on our buses at this time.
The policy will be re-evaluated after October 14th.

Director of Transportation
Dropping off items at school (in the office) for your children
We strive to support our students in every way possible, but delivering items to students during the day can present challenges. Our teachers are focused on instruction and may not frequently check their emails, and calling into the classroom disrupts the flow of lessons. While essential items like lunches and backpacks will always be prioritized, other items such as water bottles, snacks, or iPads (unless specifically requested by the teacher) are not considered urgent. To help foster responsibility, we encourage you to keep these items at home until the next day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
For the safety of all students - PLEASE READ and FOLLOW the information in the links below.
“Stop-Drop and Go” Map, Information, procedures (Please read)
Do not park anywhere on the North Side of Langston Drive; this is a moving line of cars, and parking here will cause congestion and safety issues.
Please talk with your children before school and have a “PLAN” for daily pick-up and drop-off. Teachers do not consistently check email during the day, and changing pick-up plans is very stressful for our children. To the best of your ability, create plans and be as consistent as possible.
Resources
District Calendar: You can subscribe to the calendar and get automatic updates!
With the new USB-C iPads, traditional headphone jacks do not work, but USB-C headphones on the market might be a good option. Here is one example: https://a.co/d/0fUkocjn
Upper Arlington Schools ATTENDANCE POLICY regarding 10 Occurrences:
A medically excused absence occurs any time a student is out of school due to an illness or medical visit/appointment (physician, dentist, or therapy). A medical excuse for personal illness will be accepted in the form of a doctor’s note within five (5) school days of the absence or parent e-mail (or phone call) on the day of the absence due to illness or doctor’s visit.
A student may have up to ten (10) medically excused absences WITHOUT a doctor’s note, as long as we receive an e-mail or phone call from a parent or guardian. After 10 occurrences, a doctor’s note is required to be marked as an excused absence.
Student Fees for New and Returning Students (Grades K-12)
Families of new and returning students can log in to SPS EZpay to pay any fees associated with their students. At this time, the fees available for payment include:
Instructional fees for elementary students (K-5);
Middle school optional community building / social fees; and
The optional Technology Protection Plan fee ($25) for students in grades K-12.
Families wishing to purchase the optional Technology Protection Plan must complete the technology forms in PowerSchool AND pay the $25 fee in SPS EZpay before the first day of the 2024-2025 school year (August 14, 2024). If the $25 fee is not paid by the first day of school, the plan is void.
If paying these school fees will cause a hardship for your family, please contact your child’s principal or school counselor.
For instructions on how to create an SPS EZpay account or add a new student to an account, please visit www.uaschools.org/backtoschool. If you have any questions about student fees, please contact fees@uaschools.org. If you have difficulty accessing your account, please call 1-866-MYEZPAY.
Birthday Treats (food) and allergies
Our top priority is creating a safe and welcoming learning environment for all of our students at Greensview. For many of our students with food allergies, something as simple as a snack can have severe or even life-threatening health implications.
Please understand that this does not mean we are eliminating the recognition of students' birthdays. We will continue to honor and celebrate these milestones in our students' lives. If families wish, they may bring in non-food treats for the class. If you have other ideas for non-food celebrations, please feel free to discuss these with your child's teacher. If a food item is brought into the office or in a child's backpack to hand out to the class, we will need to send it home with the child or with the adult bringing it into the office. Please know we are not trying to be unfriendly or unkind, we simply want to keep all of our students safe.
We will continue to allow for food during seasonal celebrations and classroom parties. Teachers and room parents will work together to coordinate the menus for these events, ensuring all students can enjoy these special snacks and refreshments safely. Thank you for your support!
Dogs on School Property
While we love seeing our students' furry friends, we also want to remind families that dogs are prohibited on school property for everyone's safety. If you choose to walk your dog to pick-up/drop-off, please wait for your student off the school grounds (perimeter sidewalks), and they can meet you there.
New UA Schools App
Get ready for school by downloading the new Upper Arlington Schools app! The launch of our new district app coincides with our new website, launched in June. The app gives families access to important information like school year calendars, school day schedules, and information to report a student absence — all in the palm of their hands. You can download the app in the App Store or Google Play.
