Meet Sparty!
Introducing Sparty! He’s our newest staff member at the high school who will begin working in May.
Sparty comes to us from the Indiana Canine Assistance Network. He is a facility dog and has been in training for two years to learn behaviors and skills that will benefit our students and staff. Sparty was specially matched with our school and will begin working after he graduates in
April. He will be living with Mrs. Tammy Etter and working alongside Mr. Morgan in the Counseling Office. He will assist students with regulating emotions, coping skills, working through grief, incentives, and just making the school a happier place.
A special thanks to our many community donors, but especially to Builders Lumber and Hardware and to Knauf Insulation for their generous donations and fundraising efforts that allowed us to get Sparty. Sparty recently came to visit the school, and many students were very excited to see a dog, pet him on their way to class, and learn that he will be at school every day very soon. He will be a welcome addition to our school!
If your student has dog allergies, please contact Ms. Miranda Wethington at 317-398-9731 or via email at mlwethington@shelbycs.org. Ms. Wethington or Mr. Morgan will be happy to speak with you to share our procedures for keeping everyone safe.

Staff of the Month
Mrs. Anderson is our band director at SHS. Her husband, Brandon, is also a band director and her son, Evan, attends Golden Bear Preschool. Mrs. Anderson is a proud member of the Class of 2008 from SHS.. Mrs. Anderson’s favorite things about SHS are the students and all the traditions in the band department!
Fellow staff members, parents, and students stated the following about Mrs. Anderson.:
Allison works incredibly hard at her job and the band program thrives under her direction. She is incredibly organized, hard-working, and dedicated to her students and always puts them first. Allison is no stranger to Shelbyville having grown up and attended school here, and exemplifies the Golden Bear way in all that she does. Between pit band, pep band, marching band, jazz band, solo/ensemble contests and hosting various band competitions throughout the school year, her schedule can be incredibly tricky to manage yet she navigates it with ease. I am happy to call her both a colleague and a friend!
STEM Night
Science club hosted an open-to-the-public STEM night on March 28. This was 100% created, organized, and communicated by students, with minimal help from any adults. These students did a fantastic job and hosted about 40 families from the community, guiding them through research based projects and various STEM activities. A huge shoutout to the following students for their hard work and intrinsic motivation: Joan Price, Gabe Cueto-Ramos, Kieran O'Connor, Shayden Schiloski, Samuel Schoentrup, Alex Lucas, Xander Lucas, Lesley Martinez-Gomez, Candace Washburn, Ella Holmes, Addison Hinners and Harika Patel.
