September Library Lessons
In September, students dove back into the library to refresh their knowledge of book care and rules. Our younger students had a blast using context clues to "send" mischievous book characters to the principalβs office for destroying library books! Meanwhile, our 3rd to 5th graders tackled the exciting BOOM CLAP SNATCH game. Fun and learning all around!
LIBRARY GOAL 2023-2024
By the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the school library aims to enhance student reading proficiency and science understanding by integrating targeted literacy and science activities, with a focus on 5th grade science TEKS. My goal is to achieve a 3-5% increase in Science STAAR scores for 5th grade students.
Collaborate Closely with Teachers:
- Teacher Feedback: Gather input from teachers on how well library resources and activities align with their curriculum.
Provide Relevant Materials:
- Circulation Statistics: Track the checkout rates of books and resources related to reading and science.
Cross-Curricular Projects:
- Student Reflections: Collect feedback from students on their experiences with the projects and their learning outcomes.
Monitor Student Progress:
- Engagement Data: Record student participation levels in library programs and activities.
Measurable Growth in Reading MAP Scores:
- Reading MAP Scores: Compare pre- and post-assessment scores to measure growth.
Higher Science STAAR Scores:
STAAR Scores: Analyze Science STAAR assessment results to track improvements.
Unit Science Assessments: Review unit science assessments to gauge progress.
Shoebox Ofrenda
Join in on our DΓa de los Muertos Ofrenda Display!
You and your child are invited to create an ofrenda using a shoebox or other small cardboard box to be displayed in the Behlau Library. DΓa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a cultural celebration that honors loved ones who have passed away. It is not a religious holiday, but a way to remember and celebrate family members and loved ones.
The ofrenda can honor a person or even a beloved pet. Your child may decorate the box with meaningful items, photos, or mementos. Please avoid including anything fragile or valuable.
Ofrendas will be displayed in the library for everyone to enjoy and will also be featured during our November Multicultural Night. Please be sure to label your childβs box with their name and grade.
Ofrendas should be brought to the library starting October 14th and will be returned home on November 22nd or December 2nd.
For any questions, contact librarian Veronica Martinez at 210-398-1033 or veronica.martinez@nisd.net.
